Albany Devils Thread - 2015-16 Edition

Some news and notes from the past few days:
-- Blandisi, Boucher, Gragnani, and Helgeson were sent back to Albany with the NHL on break.
-- Johnson is still with Albany and has been joined by his Adirondack teammate, Appleby with Wedgewood injured.
-- Lorito is healthy and playing, Novak who briefly came back from a broken hand is out again.

AHL 1/27
Albany defeated Hershey 3-2 in OT. Sislo, Hrabarenka, and Boucher had the goals. Gragnani, O'Neill, Lorito, Sislo, and Tropp earned an assist each. Hrabarenka led the team with 4 shots as Albany outshot Hershey 24-19. Wedgewood started the game and made 12 saves on 13 shots in 51:38 of action before leaving with a right shoulder injury. Danis made 5 saves on 6 shots in 10:08. Scott Gomez had an assist for Hershey. Albany went 1/3 on the PP and 3/3 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Albany lost to Utica 4-3 in OT. Boucher had 2 goals while O'Neill had a goal and an assist. O'Brien had 2 assists followed by Burlon, Gragnani, and Lorito with 1 each. O'Neill had 6 shots followed by Boucher with 4 as the Devils were outshot 29-25. Danis made 25 saves. Albany went 1/5 on the PP and 2/4 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

AHL 1/30
Albany lost to Bridgeport 4-1. Kelly had the Devils goal with Thomson and Thompson earning the assists. Appleby made his AHL debut with 17 saves on 20 shots as the Devils outshot the Sound Tigers 25-21. Albany went 0/8 on the PP and 4/4 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Note:
-- Albany has lost 7 of their last 8.
-- Wedgewood is expected to miss 4 weeks with his right shoulder injury.
-- Albany has a 96.25% PDO (all situations) over their last 10 games.

Kowalsky mentioned that Blandisi is mainly there to practice and stay sharp during the break. Seems like they want to avoid the chance of injury which is why he isn't playing games.

Was he ever really cold (in the AHL this season)?  I could be wrong but I think he's been fairly consistent with Albany this season. 

He doesn't really have anything more to prove there anyway...now it's about can he become a decent NHLer?

True, he really hasnt been cold in the AHL. I think in the macro sense, he takes a year or so to get used to a level before lighting it up. (Though you can say that about tons of players, so I guess my post really didnt say much lol).

AHL 2/5
Albany defeated Providence 4-3 (SO). Pelley, O'Neill, and Tropp had the goals. Johnson, Scarlett, O'Brien, Tropp, O'Neill, and Gragnani picked up an assist each. Sislo had 5 shots as the Devils and Bruins had 24 shots each. Danis made 21 saves in the game and stopped both shots he faced in the shootout. Albany didn't have a PP and went 1/1 on the PK. Albany shutout Hartford 3-0. Sislo had a goal and an assist. Thompson and Thomson had the other goals. Burlon had 2 assists followed by Kujawinski, Lorito, and O'Neill with an assist each. O'Brien had 4 shots as the Devils outshot the Wolf Pack 27-21. Danis made 21 saves for his 5th shutout of the season. Albany went 0/1 on the PP and 1/1 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Albany defeated Rochester 1-0. Sislo had the lone goal, shorthanded. Sislo also led the team with 4 shots as the Devils outshot the Americans 28-22. AHL 2/13
Albany defeated Rochester 3-0. Black, Sislo, and O'Brien had the goals. Scarlett had 2 assists followed by Thomson, Hrabarenka, and Thompson with 1 each. Mozik had 4 shots as the Devils and Americans had 26 each. Appleby earned his 1st AHL shutout (and win) with 26 saves. Albany went 1/3 on the PP and 4/4 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Kinda too bad that Sislo looks like he's never going to be anything more than a good AHLer.  It'd be nice if he could parlay his hot play in the AHL up here.

AHL 2/14
Albany defeated Bridgeport 3-2 in OT for their 3rd straight win. Sislo and O'Neill had the goals in regulation and Scarlett scored the game winner in OT. Scarlett, Lorito, Novak, Burlon, Sislo, and Thompson had an assist each. Thompson had 7 shots as the Devils outshot the Sound Tigers 36-26. Danis made 24 saves. Albany went 1/7 on the PP and 6/6 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Albany defeated Utica 3-2 in OT. Kelly, Sislo, and Lorito had the goals. O'Brien, Kujawinski, Thompson, Gragnani, and Scarlett had an assist each. Thompson had 8 shots followed by Sislo with 5 as the Devils outshot the Comets 34-23. Danis made 21 saves on 23 shots. Albany went 0/6 on the PP and 4/5 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

AHL 2/21
Albany defeated Bridgeport 5-2 for their 5th straight win. Hrabarenka, Thompson, Black, Kujawinski, and Sislo had the goals. Sislo, Kelly, Lorito, Thomson, and Tropp had an assist each. Thompson, Sislo, and Black had 4 shots each as the Devils were outshot 27-26. Danis made 25 saves on 27 shots. Albany went 0/5 on the PP and 6/6 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

AHL Notes:
-- The Times Union reported on 2/18 that Wedgewood may need season-ending surgery.
-- Danis now has 20 Quality Starts on the season (58.82%).
-- Sislo leads the AHL in goals (25).

ECHL 2/16

Geez...Sislo just keeps scoring every game.  Just wish it meant something for the big club.

Albany defeated St. John's 4-3 to extend their winning streak to 6 games. Sislo (1 goal and 2 assists) and Thompson (1 goal and 1 assist) led the offense. McPherson and McKelvie had the other goals. Lorito had 2 assists followed by Tropp and O'Neill with an assist each. Pelley and Novak had 3 shots each as the Devils were outshot 25-20. Danis made 22 saves. Albany went 0/1 on the PP and 3/3 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Albany defeated Bridgeport 4-1. Black, Pelley, Thompson, and Hrabarenka had the goals. Gragnani had 2 assists followed by Kujawinski, Novak, O'Neill, Thompson, and Sislo with 1 each. Hrabarenka had 5 shots followed by O'Brien with 4 as the Devils outshot the Sound Tigers 27-17. Danis made 16 saves. Albany went 2/4 on the PP and 4/5 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Albany lost to Toronto 4-0. O'Neill had 4 shots as the Devils outshot the Marlies 24-23. Danis made 19 saves. Albany went 0/6 on the PP and 3/3 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

-- Albany's 8 game point streak has come to an end.
-- Mike Sislo was named AHL Player of the Month with 9 goals and 7 assists in 11 games.

Albany lost to St. John's 3-1. Pietila had the Devils goal on the PP with Novak and Scarlett earning the assists. Sislo had 4 shots as the Devils and IceCaps had 27 shots each. Danis made 24 saves. Kelly and Thomson had 2 fights each while Kujawinski had one that earned him a game misconduct for a secondary altercation. John Scott had 27 PIM's for St. John's (instigating, fighting, misconduct, game misconduct - abuse of officials). Albany went 1/4 on the PP and 1/2 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Albany defeated St. John's 5-4 in OT. Sislo, Lorito, Pelley, and Pietila had the Devils goals in regulation. O'Neill had the fluke game winning goal on the PP in OT. Leblond had 2 assists followed by Kujawinski, O'Neill, Novak, McPherson, McKelvie, Lorito, and Sislo with an assist each. Lorito had 7 shots as the Devils outshot the IceCaps 31-27.
