MadDog2020
I'm gonna throw out a name no one is talking about that I could see Lou dealing the first (7-10 range of course) as part of a package for, because this would be vintage Lou: TJ Oshie. Oshie's name popped up in some trade rumors earlier this year... I have no idea if St. Louis would consider moving him, but he's the type of young center I could see Lou going after. It would be costly though, no doubt.
ghdi
I don't know how sold I am on Marner. Remember the last undersized "skilled" forward we drafted? (Tedenby) Do we really need another one of those? Unfair comparison. Marner is not coming from Europe. That alone is massive. Here's a better comparison: Zach Parise. They're the same height, and Marner has more than enough time to put on some muscle. He's currently 15 pounds lighter than Zach was when we drafted him. I personally want Pavel Zacha or Strome, but I'd be happy with Marner. Obviously, this is outside of the top 2. And yeah, we're down to #8 at the moment. My earlier point still stands. I think there's more than enough skilled forwards in this draft to take one with the #7 or #8 pick.
ghdi
Its going to cost at least the Devils 1st and there two 2nd round picks for the Leafs to think about trading Kessel to the Devils that is way to much for one player Based on what? I do think it will cost a first, but not 3 picks as you suggest. Kessel also can control where he gets traded, so that its another limit. If he doesnt get traded at the draft, then its a moot point anyway. A 1st and 2 2nds in the same draft is not something any team would be interested in doing. I could see: 2016 first, 2015 2nd, and a prospect being a doable deal if it was the Devils he was getting traded to. The contract is a big issue. That said, I think he's going to get traded to the Islanders. They have cap room, assets and with them moving into Barclay's he's the type of splash I see them wanting to make. They just dont have a first, but I dont see a lot of teams offering Toronto a first during the draft for Kessel unless they take a 2016.

Boychuk and Leddy just got nice deals, and Tavares is going to be at least an $11 million AAV player in enough time. They certainly have the assets to give up though. Marner is scoring at an insane rate, we would be extremely fortunate if he fell to us.
ghdi
Do the Isles have the cap space? Boychuk and Leddy just got nice deals, and Tavares is going to be at least an $11 million AAV player in enough time. They certainly have the assets to give up though. They currently have 4.9 (basically 5) mil in space with Boychuk and Leddy signed. Tavares is signed to a 6M cap hit through 18-19. Visnovsky is off the books this season, that clears 5M by himself and Neuvirth is another 2.6 (only counts for 600K right now) in room as hes UFA as well. So yes, they'll have the room. If Snow wants Kessel, he has the room and assets to get him. The Islanders are in a very envious position in a lot of respects. The timing of them starting to play well couldn't have been better. The only UFAs going into this offseason are Visnovsky and Neuvirth with Brock Nelson the only RFA of note, Kessel makes sense for them. It's possible he'll fall 2 additional spots to 7, which would be great. Let's hope some of the teams drafting before us are interested in taking defensemen.
