True dynasties are so hard to come by these days.  All you can really hope for as a fan is to enjoy an extended run of relevance, and to have some of those relevant seasons result in at least one championship (though most fans will happily settle for just one).  Fortunately, we got to enjoy something very close to that with the three finals in four seasons, two of which resulted in championships.

I'm on the fence about Lou at this point.  More and more it just feels like it's time for a change.  And just like Marty's last seasons, the balance of the last 4-5 years won't change my opinion of what Lou did here...just the fact that he held the job for 28 years when most GMs are lucky to last as many as 10 pretty much says it all.

I respect what Lou did for this franchise, and I don't blame him for where the team is now. Naturally in sports, there are highs and lows. The higher the highs, the lower the lows. Just look at the big teams from the 80's. I think when you win for a long time, you need to accept that it isn't sustainable forever and that the losing will come eventually.

Now, that being said, I feel it's absolutely time for a change. Lou is in his 70's, and he's shown he's way too sentimental in his decisions at times. The game has changed, times have changed.

I also think ownership is chomping at the bit for a new direction, but they are aware that it needs to be a delicate procedure. This will be an incredibly important off season and draft for this franchise. I really don't see Lou as the GM here very much longer.

Anyone catch this? http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2015/04/keith_olbermann_rips_overrated_lou_lamoriello_devi.html

As if Olbermann couldn't be a bigger clown...

Well, at least he isn't holding a grudge from THIRTY SEVEN YEARS AGO. Jesus, Olbermann. Let it go.

I'm not trolling. Trust me on that. I was just blowing off steam while watching that wretched performance vs. the Rags. I don't come here to troll and mix it up with people. In fact, mixing it up with people is the last thing I feel like doing on this board. Life's too short.

We've actually done a pretty solid job at invading their building.  Especially last year when we started 3-0 against them, the building erupted when Gelinas scored the OT winner in that one game.

He's young.  I think we should trade him.  He can bring back a nice return.

It's not very difficult to get tickets, nowadays to any event.  Between Stubhub and the ticketexchange, if you are willing to pay, the tickets are available.  There have been more visiting fans at MSG the past 7-8 years then there were before.  Between tickets being so easy to get and all the transplants in Manhattan.  I had a Devils fan sitting next to me Saturday Night.  The guy who has those seats is a good friend of mine, was in my wedding party.  Our seats are $59, my friend got $150 each after fees on ticketsnow or ticketexchange or whatever it is called for the tickets. So, the Devils fan must have paid close to $200 each.  Guy left mid-way through the 2nd period.

yea that was nice. But I want a game where we can pack like, 6-7k into MSG. But that 2006 game 4 was a nice showing

If the Rags don't win it all this year it will be a bitter disappointment to end all bitter disappointments. Very similar to their 1991-1992 season

I was at the game, and definitely the most Devils fans I had ever seen at MSG.  Probably not 6-7k, but still a lot.  That was also a weekend afternoon game.  Back then, those were the first games STH's wanted to unload, so not sure if it was simply the Rangers fans dumping their seats to avoid the funeral.  I'm sure some of it was due to that, but my guess would be most were already sold.

I remember we did actually take the Garden over in 2006 for game 4 when we swept them. Rags fans couldn't dump their tickets fast enough for that one.

What qualifies as "taking over".  Most I have ever seen, but hardly taking over.  Towards the end of the game, yes as it was obvious the Rangers were done and fans started to leave.  But to start, no.  4-5K maybe.

Chances of knocking out the Rags.

Tampa Bay: Excellent chance.  The one team I know CAN do it.

Boston: Good chance.  They play the style that is kryptonite to the Rags provided they can contain the Rags speed.

Washington: Decent chance.  They can take the Rags style and throw it right back in their face.

Detroit: Possible.  If they get healthy, they have the speed to match the Rags.

NY Islanders: Possible.  I'm not too confident they can hang with them for a full 7 game series.

Montreal: Unlikely.  They've been riding a hot goalie all season long, and the Rags have the edge in every aspect.

Pittsburgh: No chance.  Fragile as fvck.

I get you are a Devils fan and you are trying to convince yourself the Rangers will lose, but you do realize they are 41-11-3 in their last 55 games?  That includes about 20 games with their staring goalie being out.  This is way beyond a hot streak.

Unfortunately, when their team is not good, the first thing a lot of fans point to is lack of guts or effort.  I still think the Devils do try.  And that's what's scary about this bunch...their best effort isn't often anywhere near good enough to win or even be competitive.

There is a fine line between lack of effort and lack of execution, most fans are not able to distinguish between the 2.  Didn't think the Devils lacked effort last night.  They got very chippy and even though they took 7 penalties, could have been called for about 15.  Seemed like they were trying to do everything I can to turn it into a sequel to Slapshot or at the very least get the Rangers to retaliate so their PP can go to work.  May not have worked, but not necessarily because of a lack of effort.  If it was a lack of effort, the Rangers would have blown them out of the building.

Last night's game was physical but I don't really remember anything that was a big deal. Larsson elbowed St. Louis but anyone that understands hockey knows it wasn't intentional at all. Tootoo tried to get Hunwick to fight which apparently really upset Ranger fans as well. Apparently Sam and Joe on the Rangers broadcast were working up the fans all night long by talking about how dirty the Devils were playing though and that Lou should be embarrassed. Add in the hive mind that is social media and apparently the Devils played extremely dirty and should be embarrassed.

Of course these are the same people that defend Kreider saying he "just needs to understand his own strength."

Wow, a true big-time fan, huh?

I still watch my fair share of games, as do others, but in his defense, the Devils are currently a very tough team to watch.  They get outshot by wide margins almost routinely.  Good teams don't have much trouble overwhelming them and making them look like the slowest team alive.  Outside of a select few players and Cory Schneider, there's not much to get excited about.  There's not that dynamic young forward or two that, despite needing obvious seasoning, gives fans reasons to tune in.  It's one ugly hockey team, and some fans can only watch Cory stand on his head for so long before they get fed up.

I meant 'taking over' in relative terms.

Why are you trolling on a Devils forum?

To his defense, he usually has something interesting to say and usually doesn't engage every guy talking smack about the Rangers, so I'll give him a pass here lol

Yeah I heard about Homer Joe and his embarrassing whining. And of course the mindless drone Rag fans who don't really know much about the sport or how it's played and need announcers to tell them how to think (which sadly make up a good majority of that fanbase) take it as gospel, completely incapable of watching the game with their own two eyes and deducing what's actually going on. But hey- Kreider 'plays on the edge' brah. He doesn't know his own strength brah. Goalie shouldn't be standing in the crease like that brah.

To his defense, he usually has something interesting to say and usually doesn't engage people talking smack about the Rangers, so I'll give him a pass here lol

As will I, and no one hates the Rags or their fans more than me. Matteau usually brings good discussion.

i honestly gained respect for Leafs fans and a few more fan bases out there after the last few years.

Ive been a devils fan for like.... 22 years or something and ive been spoiled. So things are bad sure but at least i have good memories to hold on to.

Leafs fans or a bunch of fan bases in the US where hockey is behind like 10 other sports... are still showing up after years of terrible hockey? Kudos.

Devils hockey is always gonna be a part of me. But this year for the first time, if my buddies asked me to do something on a night that there's a game, i'd go for it, fvck it. No more cancelling plans and planning around game nights.

I'm a Miami Dolphins fan... We haven't won jack sh!t in 42 years. One playoff appearance in the last 13 seasons. Zero playoff wins in 15 seasons. I'm well versed in being beaten down by a favorite sports team. Since my freshman year in high school, I never had to worry about the Devils being competitive- even though I saw my first game in '85, I was too young back then to understand just how bad the Devils were pre-Lou. So now, for the first time in my adult life, I'm becoming well versed in being beaten down by two favorite sports teams... The only two sports teams on the planet I give a rat's ass about. Obviously, there are way, way worse things in life, and sports is meant to be for our enjoyment and entertainment...But damn, if it doesn't suck. Edited by MadDog2020

The Mets have given me my share of beatdowns through the years.  Hoping that ends for while starting with this season.

ahhh godamnit and now i just read they are rebooting the Gremlins movies... Why is everything i grew up loving is turning to sh!t suddenly? lol

There's wrong and then there's WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG.

This is

WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!

And in this vein, the Poltergeist remake is coming out next month.  Remember how scary the clown was in the original?  And what a surprise it was when his face changed?  For the 2015 version, there's already pictures of the clown in both "normal" and scary form...the scary form is RIGHT ON THE FRIGGIN' POSTER!

fvcking Hollywood...please start coming up with some new ideas please.  Not everything needs a CGI coat of paint and the squeezing in of modern technologies into the plot.
