dmann422
Hard not to like this Honest question because I don't know advanced stats to well- Do any of these show him relative to teammates? I'm assuming these are based off of heavily sheltered minutes on a President's trophy winning team...
Neb00rs
This guy is going to play 40-50 games for us at 15 mins a game. A nice little depth addition to our NHL roster.

I'm assuming these are based off of heavily sheltered minutes on a President's trophy winning team... I dont believe this is relative, I think it's the sum. But he spent a lot of time in AZ so the numbers arent all inflated. It's not like we're expecting him to be a top 4 guy like the charts show. It just shows that he did very well with his easy assignments. He'll likely get those same assignments here
Triumph
Honest question because I don't know advanced stats to well- Do any of these show him relative to teammates? I'm assuming these are based off of heavily sheltered minutes on a President's trophy winning team... The bottom 2 are relative to teammates, so basically yeah it adjusts for that - of course what's at issue is that is that goalies have posted an above average save percentage behind him for 3 straight years, so that makes him look like a defensive wizard in the GA60 +/-. I'd ignore that, the more relevant thing is the impact on teammates' Corsi, even though he was sheltered, doesn't seem negative. I loved him via the eye test - by loved, I mean I loved that he played for the Rangers, he was pretty bad and even though he would make some good plays with his skating the rest of his game wasn't quite there. It's a project, odds are it won't work out but it's still a good gamble.
PWW
Well he's supposedly pretty fast so I guess that fits in with our new team philosophy. Bingo. Hynes philosophy is all 5 guys in on the attack so that requires d-men who can pinch and still have speed to get back. Moore can do that. That being said, I don't think Merrill can and I could see this leading to us trading him in a package for a forward. I really like this move. Chuck the Duck
As others have already said, he's not good defensively, but can skate well and moves the puck ok. From what I remember, he doesn't take the body and turns the puck over a lot. The term is long, but the AAV is good. Overall, a meh signing, especially since he's going to be a 6-7. HOLLYWOOD
I'll have to let others comment on this, because I really don't know much about him at all. Scouting ReportAssets: Has a big frame and owns exceptional skating ability. Can play an offensive role when it's required, but is otherwise a very steady defender. Shoots the puck with aplomb. His speed is useful everywhere. Flaws: Is still learning the nuances of the NHL game. Needs to add more strength in order to better handle big forwards. Needs to keep working on his defensive consistency with regards to his decision-making. Career Potential: Extremely mobile defenseman with some upside. '7'
Big, good skating defenseman with very little offense to his game...immediately I think of Bret Hedican. Maybe if he gets his sh!t together that's who he could become like. Edited July 1, 2015 by '7'

ghdi
I don't understand this move.. unless a D trade is coming How do you spose a D trade is coming? We're losing 3 defensemen with NHL experience (Sal, Harrold, Fraser). We were almost certainly going to bring one on board for them since we're not going to fill all those open spots with Scarlett, Hrabaneka, Mozik, etc. We have 6 D-Men with NHL experience signed or to be signed (the RFAs) as of today. Eventually a D trade will occur, but there's no rush unless the deal is right.

I can't take this report seriously. NHL Central Scouting’s Jack Barzee “I watched John Moore as an underage player and I knew he was a must see player for this year; he hasn’t disappointed me one bit. His first two strides are like Paul Coffey and he has been labeled as a world-class skater. He is poised with the puck, he gets his shots through to the net and he has gotten a lot stronger this season. He resembles (Calgary Flames) defenseman Jordan Leopold and similar to Leopold at the same age he needs to get a little bit better at playing more aggressive and more physical, but John is going to be a one-two defenseman in the NHL.” Chicago Steel head coach Steven R. Poapst Strengths: “John is a gifted skater with tremendous skill that allows him to create time and space with the puck and offensive opportunities. He passes the puck like a pro and has a big time shot as well.” Weaknesses: “His defensive zone play and reading defensive rushes are the main areas in his game that he needs to continue to work on and improve on.” Overall: “John is a true leader that approaches the game as a player that needs to get better everyday. His skills combined with his skating ability are what set him apart from the rest. He continues to grow and mature as a player and leader and continues to improve his overall game each day he comes to the rink.”
thefiestygoat
I like this move since there is no risk. They got him signed through his age 25-27 seasons for cheap. He's the type of guy that can thrive in a sheltered role (favorable zone starts, weaker competition). I'm not surprised that his CF% Rel, SCF% Rel, and HSCF% were strong since he was one of better passers for the Rangers D last season. His defense is real worrisome but like I said, shelter him to put him in a role to succeed and maybe he works out well as a 3rd pairing guy that can provide some offense. If it doesn't work out, he's pretty easy to get rid off without it impacting the Devils in a real negative way.

That said, I like the fact that Shero isn't overspending to bring in guys like Martin or Oduya. This is going to be a young team that makes a lot of mistakes. Hopefully they learn and grow together as we rebuild into a contender within the next 5 years.
roomtemp
Moore is a career -16 in +/- Well he had a minus 11 last year and a minus 23 in his rookie year on a terrible Blue Jackets team during the 2011-2012 season so who knows what he'll do on a team with a decent at least goalie

Marshall
I don't understand this move.. unless a D trade is coming Right now: Larsson, Severson, Greene, Merrill, Gelinas, Moore. Helgeson/Hrabarenka/some guy as your 7th. Why trade? If anything I'd add one to keep Helgeson from ever seeing NHL ice again.
