NJDevs '14-15 Fantasy Hockey, season begins!

I don't think I did too badly with the draft all things considered...my only potential weak spot is RW, especially if (when?) Malkin gets hurt.  Of course goalie's a ? for almost everyone that doesn't have Price or Lundqvist but hopefully my Dubnyk/Allen tandem doesn't do TOO badly.  I didn't pay enough attention to the anciliary categories early and scrambled late to fill them, I might have found some good values though and with my top four D and top part of the forward group hopefully I'll rank pretty high in the scoring categories at least.

It was kind of humorous how the death valley part of the draft lived up to the billing, I think I jacked ayl about as much as red jacked me

Glad everyone could make it for at least parts of the draft.

Having Pekka fall to me in the 1st round was shocking to me..  did not expect that at all!!  and I'm concerned about the Tarasenko pick, probably should have went Pavelski, but we will see. Like my team, but not what I expected, I did a lot of mocks, and the only consistent thing...  Eichel!!!  Honestly almost picked him in the 5th round, I was worried he might not make it back to me and did not want anyone else getting him as a keeper.

I looked through the list, in the odd rounds I was jacked almost every round by the 2 or 3 picks before me!!  Even rounds maybe once!  Crazy

No issue at all with Pekka other than his previous two years were meh and I kind of see the Preds falling back a little like the Avs and Stars last year. But really I wanted to avoid goalie early unless it was Price or maybe Lundqvist but everyone jumped on the question marks in the 2nd/3rd rounds so basically all that was left of the potential top tier guys by the end of the third was Dubnyk and Cory...ones on a contender and one isn't, plus unless it's prime Marty the homer picks never work out for me in fantasy.

My main goof might have been picking Streit over Stasny, thinking he'd get back to me plus I didn't think as many useful d-men would be available late as there were but people jumped on the specialists REAL early so that kind of changed things where there were still useful d-men going in the last few rounds

People definitely started jumping on the hitters/shot blockers early this year.  I had my laundry list I was hoping to take in rounds 17-20 but most were already gone at that point.  Shame on me for not realizing it.

Honestly sometimes **** just happens that there's no way to predict  (like Elias not actually going on IR, but on the non-hockey injured list :P)

For one example I drafted Girardi last year for hits/blocks in the 17th round, this year he went in the 15th.  Brooks Orpik went in the 15th this year, last year he was a 23rd round pick.

I really should have accounted for the early goalie run and expected to draft one early though, I figured someone decent would slip into the middle rounds but it wasn't heading that way.  Maybe I should have tried harder to get Elliott later on to at least link the Blues up but I'd rather not carry three goalies anyway with the 23-man roster and 18 starting skaters, plus deciding between Blues and Wild would give me headaches every game.

Round 3/4 were rough for me.

I wanted Kopitar (wish list, but didnt expect),  and figured I'd get Rask in Round 3; he didn't make it to me (2 picks)... if not, I was going Filip Forsberg; went the next pick...   and then I was left scrambling with so much D talent (Giordano, Weber, Burns) just staring at me and MacKinnon, Backstom and the Sedins on my forwards queue.   I ran out of time and snagged Giordano.     My other 2 D-Men went...  and then watched MacKinnon come off the board...  then Backes (I was fine with that one)...    I didnt think Hasan was going Backstrom but he did.   So I was left scrambling looking at players and ran out of time and was auto-picked from queue.  I was annoyed at the time; but with time, I think I still pick him...  or Henrik Sedin (who didnt go until the 6th).

If I knew how much talent would remain on D later, I would have in the 3rd grabbed MacKinnon or Backstrom; and like still a Sedin in the 4th.

Odd... even rounds sucked for me :)

I think the Mock drafts screwed me up a bit, in most of the mocks I was able to get Pax in the 3rd, Forsberg in 3rd or 4th, Carlson in the 5th, Saad and or Kane in the 7th or 8th, and I got none of them.

The only thing that came out of the mocks was Eichel, normally went 7th or 8th which made me think he might slip through to me in the 5th...

I scroll through my lineup and see Beauchmin with two assists, I was like nice...then I realized it was against Dubnyk  :doh1:

Guess next year I'll go back to picking a goalie asap even though it didn't work for me the previous two years

First you guys let red get Eichel in the sixth round with the third pick, now you let him get Couture on waivers with the third waiver claim.  Guess some of you want him to win the title

Of course if I'd have drawn myself 12th in the draft order instead of 11th I'd have been the beneficiary of that stupidity in both cases :P

I just want to thank whoever it was that dropped Couture instead of waiting for him to become IR eligible!!

Man this league can be frustrating, I have more goals than assists (how is that even possible!!) and  3 of my earlier picks ( Duchene, Simmonds & Vrbata) who totaled 80 goals last year have 4!!! 4 freaking goals so far this year WTF!!!

I really hope they are streaky players who start streaking on the good side soon!!
