GDT: Nashville Predators @ NJ Devils 7pm

How does the re-design look?  Do both lounges look pretty much like the mock-up photoshop versions we saw a while back (the ones where not one single "fan" was wearing a Devils jersey)?

I agree with MD2020 about not only letting Weber know about your experience, but making a point of telling him that the old club experience was vastly superior.  I'm sure that considering this ownership really seems to want to upgrade the arena experience in every way, that this will not go over well with him at all.

re:  Hynes pulling KK too early...I didn't see that much of the game (was watching the Mets), but I'm not going to kill him for it...the team doesn't look to be good and sometimes you take a risk and hope it pays off.  In the grand scheme, is it really going to matter?  If anything, the pro-tank crowd should be thrilled at every lost point.

Those guys at least gave us reasons to hope that there might be the beginning of something.  I don't think anyone truly thought they were 100% sure-fire can't-misses.  They're a work-in-progress.  Let's see where they are at the end of the season.

What's funny about Marty's post about the clubs is that it reminded me of what someone posted on FB a few days ago.  This guy posted that he didn't like the clubs because they had gotten too fancy.  Just funny and amazing to see two reviews that come to the same conclusion but vastly different reasons.

I saw the finished products at the pre-season game against the Rangers.  They could have done more work on them since then, but they mostly look like what the photoshop renderings presented, perhaps slightly blander.  I actually think they are pretty good looking and look a lot more airy and feel like they have more space than before.  While not great, I feel they are still vastly better than the old Fire and Ice theme which looked like it belonged more in a Disney theme park than in an arena.  Plus these will probably look and hold up better in 10 years time than the old theming.

Can't speak for the food or service in the renovated clubs because I haven't sat there yet this season, but the renovation looks great.  It looks like they added a significant amount of seating and opened everything up.  Materials used look nice, and the TV's they have showing all different sports facing out to the concourse are a nice touch.  From an aesthetic standpoint, it looks like they did a good job to me.

Yeah I can throw in my 2c here from the home opener - from the outside looking in, the clubs look great.  They look much 'classier', much more spacious.. they finally look like they warrant the huge markup.

Can't speak to the food quality obviously.

For those who are out of the area:

Center Ice has been really screwy about not giving viewers our broadcast as an option, it says the game is blacked out and forces you to watch the opposing team's feed. I'll be calling my provider today to find out more about why this is and if it will be consistent throughout the year, because if so, it will affect if I order Center Ice or not [i don't want to be forced to listen to a good number of team's PBP guys]

That being said, the Preds team called a very good game, even went as far to go against the typical grain of "the devils are a defensive/trap team" rhetoric and said while we love to dominate the middle of the ice, we're still in transition towards a more aggressive attack.

My issue is that the huge markup for aesthetics leaves a fvckton of empty black seats which looks god awful on TV

Stats wise wise what are the numbers in favor of doing when you're on the power play and the other team can just throw it down the ice at the empty net?

I don't know the numbers on that.  I imagine having one fewer player kinda mitigates that.  You can take free shots at the empty net but it's less likely that you have a good shot from across the opponent's blueline, which is how most empty netters are scored.

what i didnt like - jersey guys

is an economic crisis in us or tickets at inflated prices?

A few factors:

1) The team never draws well in October and add in an uninteresting opponent

2) The team is garbage

3) The Mets had a chance to win their series at home

This team is hot garbage. I won't pay more than the price of a movie for this. $20 just to have something to do for a few hours in the rink, I'm probably more excited to go to Hobby's pregame. The Mets have nothing to do with this. The team sucks, the pricing is out of whack and that's it.

Honestly, I'm barely watching the team on TV because I know it'll just aggravate me. In the past, I used to drop everything and watch the team. The last few years I get so annoyed, if anyone invites me to an event/movie/show/whatever - I'm going to do that. I'll watch the highlights, read Gulitti and get the cliffnotes.

Yeah thats exactly what ive been saying.

But it's showing how hardcore some fans are though. Look at Toronto lol its filled all the time eventhough everyone in that building has never see the team win anything.

The Mets have a sh!tload to do with it actually... The attendance would've sucked last night regardless, the Mets having a clinching game puts an even bigger dent in that. I remember going to a Devils-Winnipeg game back in October 1995, it was maybe the second home game of that season, coming off our first Cup... The announced attendance that night was under 10,000. And that was off a CUP. So believe whatever the hell you want, this team doesn't draw well early in the season, they never have, and it has very little to do with the team sucking, because they draw flies to games like this when they're good. I'm an architect by profession so I'm going to be nitpicky with a lot of stuff like that, but I actually thought they were well done. Nothing spectacular, but definitely not as over-designed and fussy as they used to be. I'd say it was 60/40 split of people in Devils jerseys and people in professional attire. There was a pretty solid amount of people sitting on the seating area (a huge improvement-- more tables and chairs than you know what to do with, although there's more room now considering there's 75% less food options), they were mostly watching the mets game and mostly not sporting any Devils gear.

One slight disappointment was that both clubs were identical. Maybe a few slight cosmetic differences but layout wise and food wise they are carbon copies. I liked there being a difference, I thought it was interesting.

Yeah-- make no mistake, the new clubs *look* a hundred times better. Pretty damn close to the renderings. But, as someone who would rather be in the two hundred some-odd dollar seat for the game as opposed to perched at a table, that doesn't make an enormous difference for me.

This x100...which is why it will always piss me off when fans (some Devils fans) would piss on the horrible crowds in Long Island, Atlanta, Carolina or talk about bandwagon fans. "Where were all of you 5 years ago". That's something you'll hear being said about the Blackhawks or Penguins, Boston, LA fans by most people. I hate all that.

Sports are supposed to be entertaining. It's something you want to look forward to and enjoy. It is so hard getting behind something and putting important $$ towards when the product is going to suck, and there is a good chance your team is going to lose.

This is only year 1 of the Devils really taking a step back. Even though they have missed the playoffs 4 of the last 5 seasons, there was excitement and expectations ranging from moderate to large. This is the first time being a Devils fan where I could have said before the season with confidence that they won't make the playoffs. It's really tough watching games let alone paying for games when that is the case.

In the back of my head, I've always known that. If and when the team improves, has young stars, plays an exciting brand of hockey...and maybe the place is full many of the nights, I won't be calling those fans returning bandwagon fans.

You're right.  There's nothing that really "motivates" me to watch this group of players other than my love for hockey.  My love for hockey doesn't give me any right to spend over $25 bucks to watch this group of glorified minor league forwards.

Pretty much where I am.  Hoping to get to 2-3 games with my 7-year-old daughter in tow (she hasn't seen much in the way of wins (or even Devil goals) when I've taken her previously).  Once the Mets' season ends I'll be paying a lot more attention to the Devils than I am at the moment.  It's always tough when you're in this "in between" phase...you've gotten rid of some deadwood and have taken a necessary step back to hopefully take one forward, but you don't have those one or two truly exciting "these guys are going to help their team get back to contention in 2-3 years" players, who show those tantalizing flashes of what they'll become.

It's funny - I have taken my girls to about 10 games over the last 4 years and they've seen them win once. They've also only seen more than 2 goals in a game twice.

A lot of the teams will have issues drawing well the first few weeks to the month or so of the season. We talk about this every year. There's reasons in terms of other entertainment options, seasonal considerations, and of course the economics.

Even in the big markets there's often times a decent amount of empty seats for weekday games against marginal opponents or non rivals.

My daughter has yet to see more than two goals...she was still very young (two I think) when she saw the Devils beat the Stars 2-1, and went to the throwback game against the Pens (5-2 loss).  One year I took her to three games and she saw exactly one goal scored.  She gets into it with some "Let's go Devils!" chants, but sadly she has had so little to cheer about.  She doesn't understand what all the fuss is about.  She's also been sure as of late to let me know "The players on the TV can't hear you when you yell at them Daddy!"  Yes they can dammit!

Some teams way more than others, that would be us most years.  This year could be extra challenging. Casual fans are gonna go watch a bad team.
