awesome.  super bummed i didn't get to see the whole game.  but what a fantastic result. if its a continuation of how they have been playing, then i know it was fun to watch.

i've seen the highlights, though, and wow did Palmieri have a great game. he sniped that 2nd goal past Mason, and what an awesome feed to zajac- who had another strong game.  Offensively producing Zajac is my favorite Zajac :D

Just got back from the game and it was fun and all but man, Philly fans are soft nowadays. Not one person made a comment towards me in the concourse, in my seats or in the parking lot.

I didn't get the same treatment, but I didn't exactly sit on my hands. But I did get some unprovoked confrontation in the concourse after the 1st.

I mean, I wore a jersey and cheered pretty loudly whenever we scored. It's been getting less and less hostile, especially the last 5 years

Was at the game tonight, Devils finally all those shots paid off with goals. The ice girls were absolutely amazing, hot dogs were one dollar, the Flyers fans gave us sh!t, and the Devils won. Philthy trip was a success.

I'll edit this just to contribute to the above conversation, the Flyers fans heckled us but no one was hostile or threatening. The one dude that gave me the most crap actually tapped me on the shoulder and said good game on the way out.

This team has started off the season playing way stronger than I thought they could.  They're not good, but they are certainly not bad.  Everyone has been contributing - there isn't anyone who is useless out there, even if there are a bunch of guys who aren't scoring.  The breakouts are fixed and they are great - support in the D zone is incredible and teams just don't enter the zone with speed very often.  The horrible dump in game NJ was playing in their first 3 games has gone away - sure there are plenty of dump ins but it's not the default play lately.

Really impressed with Hynes and Shero right now.  Injuries will come and this team will struggle offensively all year long, but it feels like they've gotten the team close to a 2013-14 level just by getting rid of all the deadwood.

The Devils had an amazing game tonight. Zajac and Palmieri were strong, but it looked like the line of Kalinin-Josefson-Tootoo had a good game, strong on the puck, but I really hope the ES points start coming from Josefson. Hopefully Zajac can keep it up for the rest of the season.

We're in a playoff spot who would of thought that

Down, boy.

Seeing how you can be in Mets thread, not so sure the concourse confrontation was entirely unprovoked on your part.

I haven't watched a ton of hockey this season (that will change after the World Series ends), but I did catch some of last night's game (was more focused on the Pats and Dolphins for obvious reasons).  Seeing some good things.  Never expected a 5-4-1 start...it will be nice, when baseball is over, to be watching a team that looks like it might be reasonably competitive this year.

whatever the coaching staff is selling the team seems to be buying... the general attitude seems to be like the players are having fun out there and are out there playing for each other which is great.. i know its been a small sample so far but these last 6 or so games have been the most fun to watch hockey i can think of from this team in the last couple seasons.

The mid-80s Devils had some respectable starts before struggling:

84-85:  11-15-4, then went 11-34-6

85-86:  12-13-1, then went 16-36-2

86-87:  16-14-2, then went 13-31-4

87-88:  15-9-4, then went 13-25-1 before recovering (10-2-1 down the stretch) to make the playoffs and go on their Cinderella run

88-89:  8-7-3, then went 19-34-9

Just going to enjoy this solid start while it lasts.

I didn't start going to games in Philly until I moved here a few years ago. I think the ones that travel to Newark for games are ballsier and more hostile than they are collectively down here. I wasn't confrontational or anything, but I was engaged and vocal the whole game. The worst I got was called an a$$hole from probably a section away. I met any "you suck" I got with a prompt middle finger, and they'd just look away.

That building is pretty loud reacting to plays on the ice, but when it comes to any organized "let's go flyers", it's infrequent, short, and participation is sparse.

Definitely as a whole, sporting events are a lot tamer than they were when I was growing up. There's a lot more security, and no one wants to get tossed out of a game they paid a small fortune to get into. Ruffians who would look to start a fight are largely priced out in most cities. Sths can probably lose their privileges that way too.

Best game of the season!

Shots: 33-28 Devils

Fenwick: 48-47 Devils

Corsi: 68-59 Flyers

Just curious, why list all situation corsi and fenwick numbers? I think the even strength 5v5 situation corsi is a much cleaner way of comparing the team performances fairly.

Even Strength 5v5 Corsi

Phi: 51

NJ: 47

Also, interesting is the even strength 5v5 shots for

Phi: 19

NJ: 24

This eliminates things like powerplays, pulled goalie situations, etc...

It's easier to be more vocal when you have more numbers. Flyers usually have at least 10,15% at the Rock whereas there were maybe a couple hundred Devils fans at the WFC.

Funny story; after Palmieri scored his goal there was a pretty audible "let's go Devils" chant in my section (215). Can't recall that ever happening before

Well, that's probably because I was the one who started it. I was in the last row in 215. There was another one that I thought was louder that some guy in a Salvadore shirsey started that was a row down from me.
