In what world do we have more talent than Florida? Are there other factors that make the Devils a better team than Florida on most nights? Perhaps, but there's certainly a lot more talent on that Panthers roster than ours.

Assuming this was even true...when since does the "more talented" team win almost all of the time?  In any given season, you have plenty of "lesser" teams that beat teams that are clearly more talented.

What you're saying is a continuation of what others have started to do more and more often:  hold this team to a standard that they haven't really earned yet.  This season has been tremendous fun given the expectations (part of what factors into the fun is that every win is that much more appreciated), but there's reasons to prepare for a possible downturn (some high shooting%s, guys on pace for career or near-career years, etc)...not saying it will be a collapse (Schneider's presence alone should prevent that), but this team might hover around five games over NHL-.500 for a while (they pretty much already have:  6-5-3 in their last 14 GP).  Tri stated it perfectly in another thread, in that Shero shouldn't try to acquire any rentals or "right now"-types for any future assets, and if anything, though it might be a little difficult to take for some if this team is still in bottom-seed playoff contention, if Stepniak (who will be 33 in February) keeps this kind of production up, Shero has to consider moving him at the deadline.

For me, I want to see where they are after January 26.  There's a couple of road trips in there (11 out of 19 games total will be road games), and no real extended breaks until after that date (their next game isn't until February 2 after that stretch is over).  Once that stretch ends, the Devils will have played 50 games.  I think we'll know better then how capable of winning consistently this team really is.  For this team to change its approach even a little, I think the Devils need to be at least 10 games over NHL-.500 by that point, if not more.

Not to mention, they really took it to us last time, we could barely cope and were the inferior team despite winning.
