I'll say this, back in the day when the Devils were up 3-0 with Brodeur in his prime Brodeur wanted that shutout. He needed that shootout. And he got it.

Schneider is the master of losing 1-0 and 2-1 in a shootout. But when he gets goals, he loves to give them back up and make it close

This has the feel of a game destined for OT.

And, under the previous regime, an eventual and inevitable shootout loss.

Very true about the old regime. This turned out to be a massive win. Ends the losing streak and gets a big road win before the break.

Nice win indeed.  The 4th goal was big -- way to capitalize on the rebound and bury a scoring chance.

Didn't see the 3rd goal that Schneids gave up, but not surprised it was soft.  Indeed it seems he has at least one of those almost every game.  He's played great, and he's a large reason we're still fighting for a playoff spot at near the midway point of the season, but those soft goals really do need to stop, especially if he wants to catapult himself into the conversation of the league's best and "elite" goaltenders. It happens to every goalie, sure, but they should be the minority, not the majority.

Starting to feel like Cory can never win around here.  The guy is tied for fourth in save% among guys who've played about as many games as he has, and he often doesn't have loads of goal support to work with.  And for every perceived softie he gives up (some people act like it's a friggin' epidemic), he makes a lot of spectacular saves too.

After four years of seeing the Devils receive replacement-level puckstopping for long stretches, I'll happily take very good with a chance to be elite.  Cory's the least of this team's problems.

Can we demote Gionta? No one will be dumb enough to claim him

DeBoer would, and then have him on the top line in game 1.

No, but seriously, the horrible attempt on a breakaway chance to ice the game and then a bone-headed tripping penalty at the worst possible time that leads to a goal? I can't understand how long his leash is and why.

I agree.   I think every teams fan's think their goalie gives up too many soft goals.  Kings fans think Quick does, Predators fans think Rinne does, Caps fans think Holtby does, they all do.  The truth is that every goalie gives up lots of goals that are perceived to be soft, even if they aren't.  it just seems that most fans only tend to notice it with the guy they watch every game.

I would say Schneider has been pretty elite so far this year unless your threshold for elite is nothing less than Hasek in the '98 Olympics good.
