nmigliore
Impressive stuff from Henderson. Would be a nice boon to the 'pen if he can rekindle what he was in 2012-2013.

'7'
Well...his wife is probably going to be induced anyway, and with this "tightness" issue and whatnot...apparently bad enough for him to leave a game at only 70 something pitches...I say 15 day DL him. Something is going on...he has a strain/sprain somewhere and needs a full workup and probably some time to rest whatever is ailing him. Don't push him in April. We need to proceed with the utmost caution.

With that said, have fun! Opening Day is still super exciting and the one exception I would make to going to an April game... 8 hours ago, Colorado Rockies 1976 said: nmig just summed up every April game I've ever been to at Shea (haven't been to any at Citi...I've always gone there in the thick of summer). I used to buy the six packs (six games, with one Yankee game) back in the day (they eventually turned into nine packs), and you'd always get stuck with at least one April date, often two. I don't remember once having good weather at any of those April games. And I remember going to a night game in mid-May where it had been pleasant during the day (mid 70s), so I showed up wearing shorts...brutal mistake. I shivered the entire time I was there...temp must have low 50s, with swirling Shea winds to boot. Curious about Lugo too...time to see what the potential next wave can do. We may need these guys later this year. Yeah it was definitely windy in spurts and a constant cold despite the fact I was somewhat prepared, perhaps I should have worn my winter jacket (I did have a jacket but it was more a spring jacket) but I had a sweater underneath my jersey and two layers of pants but one of them was light too. I would have been better off literally dressing in my Winter Classic attire (where I was actually bundled up to the extent I was fine except for my face). I had my jacket off for the intros but pretty much on the rest of the game. I got there early enough, just after 11:40 but my phone ticket didn't work (you can get your plan ticket scanned off the MLB Stadium app), well actually it did work but the printer at the ticket machine didn't print out a ticket, seems as if you need one for inside the stadium anyway so it took about fifteen minutes for me to get into the stadium and going from the RF entrance to the bullpen entrance with a lot of waiting Then after I finally did get in I went upstairs and tried one of the steak sandwiches, it was pretty decent. $16 but it was fliet mignon and they actually gave you pretty good portions of the steak, so I wouldn't even say that was overpriced. By the time I got the sandwich it was about ten minutes before all the ceremonies started, turned out the stand was right outside my section - for some reason I thought I was in section 509 but it was 517 and wound up being a pretty good view; better be considering I'm sitting there for at least like ten games this season. During intros probably the most memorable moment for me was Ryan Howard hearing the boos and playing along cupping his hands up to his ear egging on the crowd to get louder lol...and it escaped me right away why Larry Bowa got the boos he got till I remembered later the whole Robles quick pitch nonsense last year and him being vocal in the middle of that. Colon actually got some of the loudest cheers which was kind of hilarious. I don't think any of the Mets got booed thank god, one of the few years there's no scapegoats to get on. I say think cause I wasn't sure if they were booing Eric Campbell or saying Soup like someone else said. At first I thought it was boos and I was like geez no reason to get on Eric Campbell just cause he's Eric Campbell. Shoot, while he's on the team maybe he should be used as Wright's defensive caddy I wasn't taking real note of deGrom's velocity during the game cause the first half of the game it seemed as if the numbers on the scoreboard gun didn't work. It would show fastball or curveball, but not MPH until like the middle of the game. I wasn't even that worried when he left cause I figured it was a PH situation and they lifted Thor after six the other day without a PH but word spread fast it was a back thing and now I am worried a little since he's been having documented back issues dating back a few weeks now. After the run deGrom gave up in the sixth to tie the game I was basically hating our offense at that moment - the fact that one bad AB against Eickoff was going to cost him a win combined with all the failed >2 out RBI opportunities - of course that's when the bats finally busted out. All in all a good Opening Day though. Even if I was a litte rusty and went the wrong way away from the subway getting out of Citi (of course it didn't help getting turned around a bunch before the game). Haven't even had a chance to see the program or the yearbook yet. Oh one small pet peeve, they're running a promo with Subway where if Met pitchers strike out ten hitters you can get a free 6' sub with purchase of a drink. I was like okay fine but you can't use it at Penn Station. And you obviously can't really use it in Jersey even though the note says 'participating stores in the New York metro tri state area'. So basically that was useless for me, and I would have actually used it tonight Edited April 8, 2016 by NJDevs4978

Even I got a chuckle out of this...I mean he did get the double in the first inning and a walk too but man that throw was scary bad wind or no wind. I actually thought Duda got the tag in but I suppose he missed. The popup was comical, I'll blame that on the wind - the Philly runner actually made the worse error on the play getting caught off first forgetting the infield fly rule. If David somehow works out a walk a game he'll probably stay up in the 2 hole for a while though, even if it might seen better for Walker to be up there. 3 hours ago, Colorado Rockies 1976 said: Nice win. I thought the Cuban guy (Hinojosa) was their closer but they used him in the sixth inning and he seemed like the only halfway decent guy in the pen. Colorado Rockies 1976
Wright is getting on base at great clip in the early going...that's about the only positive. He really should be hitting 7th or 8th, but that's obviously not going to happen for several weeks, if at all. The throwing is scary. Nice that Walker is off to a good start...at least that will keep the Murph supporters at bay for a while. Glad you had a good time Has. And got to see a win. Re: boos, some definitely could've been thrown Duda's way for the 2015 postseason follies, but it's nice that the fans chose to be merciful. NJDevs4978
Well they did chant Duuuuda so it'd be hard to tell if he did get booed anyway Oh and Terry Collins actually got some nice love from the crowd with Terry chants when he was introduced. Colorado Rockies 1976
Rough season debut for Lugo in Vegas (4 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 3 K), but it's been a PCL-style slugfest on both sides (Fresno leads 14-10...yes, this game is still going), and pitching coach Frank Viola was ejected...there's been a lot of walks in this game, so I'm guessing he's complaining about balls and strikes. Nice early start for the Mets' pitching staff: 26 IP, 20 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 26 K.
capo
Dave Roberts pulls pitcher after 7.1 no hit innings and 100 pitches. Next batter hits a 2-run shot on the 1st freaking pitch. Ouch I mean it's the first start of the year, I can't exactly blame any manager for enforcing a pitch count in April. It is an interesting dichotomy in baseball now, people are too cautious with pro arms and yet completely reckless at the youth league/little league/college levels. Guess cause the only thing people care about there is their own jobs while at the pro level people care about the monetary investment. I don't know how you fix either end of that equation. But this is a good rule, remember Tejada broke his leg in the playoffs because of a totally dirty slide by a huge scumbag, so if it prevents guys from breaking their legs or getting very vulnerably blown up at 2nd, I'm fine with it. However in the Rays game the fielders leg was grabbed by the runner. You were NEVER allowed to grab fielder in any way while he turns two. So it was a good call. I wasn't referencing one play or another, just the rule itself. I couldn't give a sh!t if Tejada or any other middle infielder was hurt, that reactionary rule changing is exactly what I have a problem with. We have to change fundamentally the way the game is played because Tejada and Posey got hurt? I've sprained or dislocated a few fingers on my left hand multiple times playing soccer, but I'm not leading the crusade to change the game because of it. Also, I've never liked Utley, but there was nothing wrong with that play whatsoever.

Colorado Rockies 1976
Mets hitting .192 as a team, but have drawn 19 walks (.300 OB%). Opponents hitting .219 off Met pitching, but the Mets have allowed just three free passes (.235 OB%). Actually a little disappointing that they're only 2-2, but it's way early. I was with my daughter in my basement and was trying to watch both the Mets and the Devils on two different TVs, but did Cespedes hear some boos after his last K? With his salary and personality, the lovefest some fans have with Cespedes is going to come to an end very soon if he doesn't start hitting.
