Colorado Rockies 1976
Grandy can definitely look bad for long stretches...though he managed to avoid those last season. And just the Ks with this team...the anti-Royals...
'7'
And Duda finally gets off the schneid with a monster HR And say what you will about Murph's start. 4hr's and 9rbi already for Neil Walker. Not bad. Edited April 19, 2016 by '7'
Colorado Rockies 1976
Of course Duda and Wright hit HRs with no one on base...at least they hit them though. Edited April 19, 2016 by Colorado Rockies 1976
thecoffeecake
Damn that Duda homerun still hasn't come down. Hearing Mets fans at the Bank is like hearing Rangers fans at the Rock. Like nails on a god damn chalkboard. Someone's gotta put a cage on that city to keep all these rats where they belong. They're all the same. The fans you see there are from Philly or the South Jersey suburbs And by the way, don't put us in the same class as Rag fans. Mets fans are their cheering for their team, not starting fights or acting like a$$holes. Edited April 19, 2016 by '7'

Irrelevance hurts (we know it all too well, though I've never made it a point to troll in other teams' threads), but the Phils are heading in the right direction, as far as rebuilding goes. If anything, he should be happy that SOMEONE is buying tickets to go to the Bank...the fair-weather Phillie fans obviously can't be bothered to show up. But regardless of who's in the seats, that's still money in the Phillies' pockets...obviously a good thing for that franchise on most levels. Colorado Rockies 1976
Wright with a .952 OB+SLG. Of course with the almost comical failures in clutch situations (and all of the Ks) it doesn't feel like he's been anywhere near that good, and it's all small sample stuff, but at least he's hit some. Guess Amateur Terry is determined to wear Familia out by the All-Star Break this season. But I do have to give him credit though, in that going all-out in that final Marlin game seems to have woken these guys up...part of it is likely things evening out, especially with the bats (it's just hard to be as bad offensively as the Mets were for much longer than they had been...it's not a great offense and we know it has weaknesses, but it shouldn't be terrible, let alone off-the-charts terrible), but this team did seem to need a jolt, and it looks like Terry helped to give it one. Phillies' starting pitching is actually showing some signs of being pretty good in the early going...though they did fatten up on an awful Padre offense (.610 OB+SLG so far, after a pretty rotten .685 OB+SLG last season), and of course, took advantage of a slumping Met offense in their prior series. Their rotation looks like it could be good though...and three of their starters are 25 years old or younger. They're doing a nice quiet job rebuilding that part of their team. Good test for the Mets today...we've seen what good pitchers do to this team...they basically turn the Met offense into a strikeout factory. Would be nice to see them do some damage against a better arm for once. Edited April 19, 2016 by Colorado Rockies 1976

Well with deGrom not around and Harvey looking frighteningly not-good, there's really no debate. But like CR said, we should HOPE that becomes debatable as the season wears on, although even if deGrom and Harvey return to excellence it still may not be. Not sure there is a pitcher in MLB with better pure stuff than Thor. Edited April 19, 2016 by nmigliore

Scary how often and effortlessly he hits 100 on the gun. I can't remember seeing anything like that from a starting pitcher. Ryan could obviously bring it for many years (though never really consistently threw strikes), and there's been other hard throwers...but I don't think those guys were constantly hitting 100 the way Syndergaard does. The Mets fans invading CBP for a game like this are likely South Jersey folk or located in or around Philly. That's coffee trying to stir sh!t up in here. He did the same thing last year during the regular season home stretch and during the playoffs.
capo
I can't help but think of Ryan. every time I see the 34 I think of the express. Thor is my dreamed up pitcher. The guy is a freak of nature and he's so damn young. Every thing he throws comes out effortlessly. This is why I never think TJ and Thor in the same sentence. NJDevs4978
Ryan was a genetic freak who didn't exactly baby his arm ever. When he ran the Rangers and tried to put everyone on his program they all came up with sore arms. The only thing that worries me about Thor vis-a-vis injury is that you just don't SEE guys throwing 92-MPH sliders let alone consistent 100 MPH as a starting pitcher. He's literally doing things you've never seen before (the amount of 100+ pitches as well as a 90+ slider). If it's sustainable we're in for something real special the next 5-10 years. I still think Harvey straightens out eventually assuming he isn't letting the nightlife get to him (a bit Gooden-like in a different sense) but for all the hemming and hawing over deGrom's velocity dip people should have been paying more attention to Harvey's. He's shown less of an ability to adjust to this point to 'decreased velocity'. Edited April 19, 2016 by NJDevs4978
'7'
Vince Velasquez is gonna be a pain in the butt down the road. Some growing pains sure (Conforto just took him deep after a Wright double...Wright becomes Ruth at CBP for whatever reason) but he has good movement on his pitches and he's a fearless and throws inside. I remember hearing nasty stories of Ryan having issues with callouses on his pitching hand, so he would literally cut him up in a bucket of water...and players called that concoction a "Bloody Nolan" (sorry for the visual) but with prized pitchers arms being treated like precious diamonds nowadays (with guys missing starts due to blisters) that stuff would never fly. '7'
Is it at all possible that perhaps deGrom and Harvey are trying to not throw as hard early in the season so as not to run out of gas later in the year? It could be a new regiment they're on in anticipation for October baseball. With deGrom I think his velocity was also impacted by the lat injury. Perhaps I'm fishing for excuses. With Harvey, I hate to say it but it does seem like has a bit of a gut now, I don't think he took conditioning as seriously as he should've in the offseason and as a result he's crapping out early. Against Philly he pitched 5 very good inning, immediately hits a wall in the 6th. Against Cleveland he takes a perfect game into the 5th...immediately hits a wall.
