He doesnt even have his best stuff today...his pitch count was a little up earlier too. Thing is in the middle/late innings the Mets love to stop working counts and help pitchers last longer by swinging at first pitch balls out of the strike zone for soft easy outs. '7'
Nimmo got a hit. The Mets have a baserunner in the 8th! Here comes the double play!
'7'
Atrocious AB by d'Arnaud. The runners moved to 2nd and 3rd but 2 out now. What the hell are you doing fishing for that terrible pitch and tapping it to 3rd?
NJDevs4978
lol why Sandy had to rush to sign deAza in December and for $5.5 million's beyond me. You get guys like deAza in March every year. Either way Lagares can't get back fast enough for the DFA of deAza.
'7'
So done with De Aza. That's it. This needs to be his last game as a Met. 2nd and 3rd and another 2 out gag job. He's in the .150s now. Even Ike never sank this low. He is cut as soon as this game ends. Might as well bring back Conforto, at least he can hit 70 points above De Aza

And teams were clammoring for De Aza in spring...those that had shortages or injury problems in the outfield. We could've unloaded his salary AND gotten a player for him. And I was in favor of him, signing him, keeping him. Stupid stupid Thank god we got Taylor Hall today, helps a bit.
NJDevs4978
Daniel Murphy Who didn't predict THIS the minute he signed with Washington though? (re: being a total Met-killer) Edited June 30, 2016 by NJDevs4978
'7'
And now Murphy adding insult to injury with a 2 run home run. Man this team just keeps taking it on the chin repeatedly over and over and over (not just Murphy...Utley) If this team had guts they'd get mad and drill someone. Start a brawl. Get fired up. But no. They as usual have no fight, just like they had no fight when Chipper Jones and the Braves owned them (this gets me banned from NYFS) Walker has been fine but Murphy is now doubling him in RBI's. Murphy gets clutch hits. Nobody on this Mets team gets clutch hits. They've literally amassed the saddest most impotent lineup known to man and are chock full of stupid hackers who have no clue what situational hitting is. I like how everybody predicted Murphy would kill the Mets this offseason and that's exactly what happened. Even god can't surprise the Mets fans anymore. '7'
So let's see...swept by the Cubs, Marlins will take 2 of 3, Nats 3 of 4 (they should win one at home vs them) 42-48 at the ASB would be my call. I would sign for 44-46 right now.
NJDevs4978
lol finally break the 22-inning scoreless streak on a meaningless HR then Nimmo goes down looking as the tying run. Typical gutless pukes.

This should be double digits by next weekend.

I hate the caveman try to hit a 5 run HR every pitch approach Kevin Long is pushing here. And Neil Walker...31 rbi and .258 isnt really cutting it for me anymore. He also wouldnt know a big hit if it bit him in the ass. Heck look at the Yankees...down 7-2 in the 9th to Texas. They fought back and tied it. When is the last time we overcome even a 2 run deficit? Colorado Rockies 1976
Insane stat of the day: Mets' record through 77 games last season: 40-37, 277 runs scored Mets' record through 77 games this season: 40-37, 277 runs scored Scary, depressing, sad...especially since no new version of Cespedes is coming here to ignite the offense. Scary that we actually have to hope that playing an out-of-position and aging Jose Reyes can make a significant impact on this team.

His OB+SLG is .767 this season; his career rate is .769. Of course, the guy who left is performing WAAAAAAAAAY above his career OB+SLG (.985 in 2015, .773 career), and the Met offense sucks mightily as a whole...so what really amounts to roughly normal overall Walker performance isn't going to feel good enough. The bad news of course is that he may improve a little in the second half, but his remaining season sample probably won't be much better than what we've already seen. Walker is what he is. Maybe the '86 gang was just too full of demons disguised as ballplayers who conjured up their demonic power to fvck with Bill Buckner, and the baseball gods have been angered ever since. They haven't been so cruel as to saddle us with endless losing seasons...it's more fun for them to give us occasional glimmers of hope (even the occasional World Series appearance) and then smash those hopes completely to pieces. We're just destined to never get to the top of the mountain. It's what the friggin' Mets do. nmigliore
I think Walker has been fine and he's literally on the same pace as last season. 2015: 603 PA, .269/.328/.427, 108 wRC+, +2.4 WAR 2016: 283 PA, .258/.322/.445, 108 wRC+, +1.2 WAR (which prorates to +2.4 WAR over 600 PA) The only exception is that almost all of his extra-basehits are homeruns, but the extreme lack of doubles has canceled out any positive effect from the bump in balls going over the fence. To put the doubles thing perspective - Walker has hit 6 doubles this season, which is the same amount James Loney has since coming to the Mets. It probably has something to do with the fact he's hitting 47.2% of his balls in play in the air versus 36.8% last season. But anyway, that change in approach aside, he's been solid. The fact Murphy has been Ruthian is what I think makes people have a poor taste in their mouths with Walker.

Walker has come here and been Walker (basically a solid major-leaguer who's a better glove than Murph)...he hasn't been bad for the most part; he's just been himself. Murph has gone to Washington and basically gone from being a good bat and shaky fielder to one of the best hitters of 2016. Sometimes crazy sh!t happens. Still a lot of season for Murph to come down to Earth a bit, but all he has to do is be what he was prior to this season and he still finishes with eye-popping numbers. '7'
Zobrist hit, Bryant HR, and goodnight the lights, this sucker is over. It doesnt look like he can deal with the bone spur. Shut him down, let him have the surgery and maybe Wheeler can step in in August. Edited June 30, 2016 by '7'

Scary that we actually have to hope that playing an out-of-position and aging Jose Reyes can make a significant impact on this team. That's crazy. For some reason to me last years offense through the first 77 didnt seem quite as infuriating pre Johnson/Uribe...mainly because not as much was expected of them. Last year 40-37 was much more acceptable, though we were definitely getting antsy about finally competing with how vulnerable the Nats were. Duda is the guy who I hope has that "rising tide lifts all ships" effect. Ultimately with both in the lineup... Reyes 3B Walker 2B Cespedes CF Duda 1B Granderson RF d'Arnaud C Cabrera SS Nimmo LF (or Conforto if he rakes in AAA) Pitcher I mean this lineup can't possible be terrible can it? Colorado Rockies 1976
This game is already over. What sucks is that the Nats really aren't that good. But the Mets are just dead. Everyone looks fvcking great against them right now. EVERYONE.
'7'
Nats are overperforming, they had a correction and then fattened up on the corpsing Mets, but Zimmerman, Werth, Taylor, Rendon, Revere, Espinosa. These guys are nothing special and not that hard to get out. And Wilson Ramos cannot hit .340 forever, as a catcher I expect some injuries and wear and tear to catch up to him. Heck even Murph was kind of...slowly...coming back down to earth until the Mets stumbled into town. Edited June 30, 2016 by '7'
'7'
Fwiw we need to look into Jay Bruce again. Yea we have Grandy in right but if we can bring in Bruce he can be a platoon outfield guy, still getting a good amount of AB's. Or just stick him in left (where he hasnt started many games)
'7'
More idiocy and bad luck. Great leaping catch in right on a Cespedes rocket, and then Loney decides an eye high outside pitch on 1-1 is perfect to swing on Rock on you bunch of dim witted hacking idiots. 8-1 Nationals. 7 out. Reds have totally quit and will be swept.
Colorado Rockies 1976
A bit surprised how clumsy Nimmo has looked in the field. Doesn't seem to be blessed with great instincts or smoothness.
