capo
Yeah, I thought it was a little weird that they brought him up today....

It's just one game, but the one thing I find annoying about this is that the Mets actually had a little something going offensively after having a LOT of trouble scoring...but for some reason it's "We just HAVE to get Reyes in here as soon as possible...the hell with everything else, it's all about Jose fvcking Reyes." Reyes can fvcking wait...at least let the team cool off before screwing with the mojo. At least the Nats lost again. It's almost like they were in a hurry to get Reyes here when he didn't have to come off as the savior, although all the hoopla he's going to have around him makes it near impossible that he's not going to get attention regardless, especially with the number thing. Or maybe it's the other way around, they didn't want the winning streak to get to ten before he came up cause then again nobody'd want to see him. And once again TC's just a figurehead since he said there was no way Reyes would be up yesterday on Monday afternoon then all of a sudden voila he's up. Although you figured they almost had to bring him up before the end of the homestand regardless to sell tickets and drum up interest Edited July 6, 2016 by NJDevs4978
Colorado Rockies 1976
It feels like Reyes is getting better treatment than he really deserves. I'm not a fan of the "bookmark" treatment he's received so far...as if he's picking up right where he left off in 2011, and has nothing to prove. If he shows that he's truly able to help this team, fine...but just having his old number and spot in the lineup handed to him...don't like it. At this point, I feel like he's a guy with no track record who's starting over. And should be treated as such. And yeah, some Sandy being Sandy here...no, I won't go out and find a more capable manager, but I'll take yet another opportunity to show everyone that I'M the man around here, in case anyone forgot...at my manager's expense...ME ME ME. One of many instances that make Sandy easy to dislike. Edited July 6, 2016 by Colorado Rockies 1976

Although you figured they almost had to bring him up before the end of the homestand regardless to sell tickets and drum up interest That would definitely be a LOLMETS moment if we were puttering around at 10 under at this point like so many past years....the disconnect between upper management and the guy actually coaching the team on a day to day basis would be hilarious if it wasnt so sad. You can't have that sort of disconnect...in any industry. And listening to the game last night, Gary Cohen, who can come off like a sour little pill at time really made it known without outright saying it, how much he is against Reyes being here. Referencing the incident in graphic detail over and over again...calling it reprehensible, heinous etc.
'7'
They're facing the atrocious Nicolino today...so time to start hitting again and for the love of god pitch AROUND Stanton today. I mean literal Bonds treatment every AB.
nmigliore
Yeah, this is really a game the Mets need to win - deGrom against Nicolino is a massive mismatch in our favor. Flores homers again. Stay hot, Wilma. This is somewhat surprising to me, but entering today, Flores is hitting a cool .302/.355/.469 since June 1st. '7'
deGrom handed a 4-1 lead. Has to lock it down. Dont let them crawl back into the game.
'7'
Ugh. Not a good job there by Wilmer. Bases loaded, 1 out...3-1 pitch and he DP's. I'm for taking a pitch in that situation 90% of the time, especially when he walked the guy behind you Also, what did I fvcking say? DONT PITCH TO STANTON AT ALL TODAY They pitched to him twice and he has two home runs. deGrom gets through 6. Not at his best but battled as usual. Very worried about this game overall. We should be ahead by more than just 2 runs. Edited July 6, 2016 by '7'

NJDevs4978
If nothing else at least getting Reyes was good as the spur to get Flores' ass in gear. Heck Reyes himself had two hits, I thought he might get two hits for the whole week. It'll be interesting to see who they play (and where) tomorrow. Can't sit Flores hitting like this but you don't want to sit Reyes after he had a plus contribution today. Cabrera probably plays tomorrow since it seems as if a family illness kept him up all night and that's why he was scratched.
NJDevs4978
I suppose this was inevitable sooner or later even though I'm not sure if it's actually 'shoulder' discomfort EDIT: Well now it seems as if it might actually be more serious than a phantom DL stint since he's going to see a vascular surgeon that diagnosed Dillon Gee's blood clots...yeesh. Flores' sample is a little misleading in that he hasn't been terribly consistent...some of his production has come in garbage time/bullying up, and that 6-for-6 day blows things up as well. It's been very much all-or-nothing over this stretch...but those numbers are better than anyone had any right to expect. Re: Gary Cohen...who knows, but he could have known someone who was battered, or been a witness to a battering incident. Maybe it hits home for him. But this is part of what Reyes will have to deal with. Some people will not forgive him, regardless of what Reyes does both on and off the field from now on. At least he got a couple of hits in his second game...if he's not hitting, patience is going to wear very thin...especially under these circumstances. capo
Big series coming up. The Mets have to stay hot. They need this one. 3 of 4 sets a tone that their ready to game up. They need a split at worst. Edited July 7, 2016 by capo
Colorado Rockies 1976
Anything worse than a split is really going to suck. I agree, I think they need to take three out of four.

He hasn't been right all season and it all started with that mysterious "illness" that put his first start in jeopardy (remember...we were speculating it was an STD) I think internally the Mets may be close to shutting him down for a prolonged period of time, if not the entire season. And if Wheeler can't come back and make some kind of an impact this year, we're going to need another starter at the deadline.
NJDevs4978
Guess either Harvey's out for the season or he tries to get through the season with an injection and maybe get surgery after.
Colorado Rockies 1976
Colon was long overdue for an implosion outing...sucks that it came against the Nats, but sh!t happens.
Devils Dose
Now there's the Ollie Perez we all know (all too well)! I don't remember him having a bat though. [emoji853]
'7'
What a fun game and win last night was. We overcame the Colon implosion (as CR mentioned, long overdue) however Colon is off the hook for all the quality starts he's given us. Flores needs to play the rest of his career looking over his shoulder. Light a fire under his ass and he performs. Let him get complacent and he sags. Murphy we're just going to have to deal with. He's Jeff Kent now. Behind him is Harper. We're just going to have to pitch to Murph and hope to get him out. Harvey...let him have the surgery. ASAP. Have the surgery and see what happens. It could rejuvenate him...it could be the end. Wheeler can not be relied upon this year so a starter at the deadline becomes critical. NJDevs4978
So Harvey's getting the surgery and is now done for the year. Ostensibly this is the reason for his issues. If he was really having issues all year why did it take this long to realize something needed to be corrected here?
Colorado Rockies 1976
Does make you wonder Has. Like '7' has said more than once...blow out this medical staff. The good news: Mets only have to approximate or improve upon 2016 Harvey. That won't be hard to do. Would've been nice if Montero wasn't a complete mess, but he just keeps getting worse and worse in AAA. ERA there now up to 7.20.
NJDevs4978
Looks like Harvey's injury even broke the NYFS Message board for the day On the lighter side (well figuratively) Bartolo going to the All-Star game in place of Bumgartner, the fourth Met All-Star joining Cespedes, Thor and Familia. NJDevs4978
The hits just keep on coming...Cespedes out with a quad injury probably though the break, Thor giving up a HR to some ex-Cardinal reject and another RBI to Ted Williams reincarnate.
