Even straight up Herrera isn't worth giving up for Bruce and I'm sure there's another piece involved from us. Argh. Yeah, could've swallowed the Nimmo package. Not that I've ever had that much faith in Sandy, but whatever bit of it I had left is gone now. Guy should kiss Omar's feet for the talent he left behind. Second deal being reported...I can hardly wait... Edited August 1, 2016 by Colorado Rockies 1976
'7'
2nd deal has to be for a reliever. Or Steve Pearce or something

NJDevs4978
Pearce (back) to the Orioles. Still waiting on the other Met trade, with our luck it's either Rosario for some mediocre reliever or a troll job insignificant minor leaguer for minor leaguer deal. Adam Rubin @AdamRubinESPN 55s55 seconds ago Heard Mets reacquired pitcher from 2015. May be Carlos Torres. http://es.pn/2asS5IA lol dear god it better not be, the Brewers probably robbed us blind

'7'
Niese is a loser. And a bad pitcher. I wouldn't take him for free. I would've kept Bastardo in the hope he turned it around Niese is such utter crap
Colorado Rockies 1976
And yep, it was Bastardo going the other way, like we all discussed. At least they're free of his money for next season. Only positive I've got. Joke of a deadline day...with Niese being the ultimate punchline. NJDevs4978
I guess it was Niese for Bastardo lol oh well...poor Verrett just when he was finally getting on track a little with a set role now he's going back to the pen to accomodate the loser. '7'
I don't hate the idea of Verrett out of the pen. He's just very milquetoast and HR prone...wherever you put him. Other times he could be ok Niese is awful.

Yeah, what the hell did Verrett do to lose his starting slot? How can anyone say Noose is an upgrade over him with the year he's had? OMG I swear Sandy hates working for the Mets sometimes. If he pitches well tonight...you can't pull him from the rotation I think this is also done with an eye to Colon, and perhaps needing to decrease his workload the next two months. Niese can fill in there. And also Wheeler not being ready when we thought he would be.
NJDevs4978
Like someone said on NYFS if Jon thought the Met defense was bad before wait till he sees it now with Cabrera and Lagares on the DL and Bruce here

Yeah, strictly on a "on paper" basis, it DOES make some sense...Bastardo was permanently in Terry's doghouse, and Niese has some versatility. But he's an impossible guy to have any faith in. Feels like such a troll job by Sandy...really does.

Colorado Rockies 1976
FWIW: Like '7' says, for now sounds like insurance. Like I said, hate that it's him. But yes, does make some sense.
capo
sh!tty day. Although I actually don't mind the Niese deal cause Bastardo is garbage and I thought that was a dumb move to begin with. We needed the fvcking catcher and he add to the clusterfvck of an outfield. What a douche. Edited August 1, 2016 by capo

'7'
Juan Uribe was dfa'd. He's an infielder, good clubhouse guy...hits for power. Old as dirt. Why the hell not?

What a douche. Yeah, this was bad. Sandy GMed like a guy backed into a corner with the Bruce deal. Reds have to be thrilled with that return. As for Niese/Bastardo...sh!t for sh!t, sometimes those change-of-scenary deals work out. Fact is the arms all seem to be pretty fragile and there's no one in AAA remotely capable of filling in if someone goes down. Niese basically cost nothing, and since there's no chance that his option gets picked up for 2017, he's gone after this year (though who knows...I guess I can't fully rule out Sandy signing him to the "show me" contract that I predicted another team would sign him to...especially since Syndergaard and Matz won't be sure things to be healthy to start 2017).
