More to do to get your mind off of the disappointment of perpetual underachievement. In fairness, they have gotten to two Conference Finals and a SC Final in the past four seasons. But it feels like the window is going to close in a hurry if they keep making moves like this. This was a pretty hefty price to pay for a rental who looks like his best days are well behind him. They're as "right now" as it gets.
Derlique
Travis Yost @travisyost 5m5 minutes ago Price on Lee Stempniak is a second-round pick. Sense that's negotiable if a team will package mid-rounders as an offset.
Derlique
So looking like a second or maybe a couple of thirds
CarpathianForest
I don't know. I know 2nd round picks helps us with future endeavors, but what can we get back that will help up in the next couple of seasons?

You can trade picks for someone that can help the big club in the offseason. Similar to Palmieri.
dmann422
i think in a vacuum its a fair deal, but considering the rags now have no 1st or 2nd rounders the next two years and have a very limited prospect pool I can see why their fans aren't too happy. But they are a win-now team and they might feel the window is closing...
Satans Hockey
Maybe he only wanted to play with his brother Marc? I could see that being a major reason he said only the Rangers.
Devilsfan118
I'm getting antsy. Not impatient, but I'm really excited to see what happens over the next 24 hrs.

As you said, that's not exactly a big move, does give them a veteran with leadership skills and the benefits that come with that, but in terms of it being a "big splash" as it was reported, it's more like when my daughter accidentally steps in a puddle. Agreed.....he'll get some points but won't be enough to lead them to a cup. Every year it seems they try and buy a cup with rental players and this year the results will be the same. I mean, I think that's the whole idea at the trade deadline if you are close, but they do it more than most and without success. Hoping that trend continues, of course. MadDog2020
@garylawless Devils appear to be making all non-core guys available. Stemniak, Tootoo, Kennedy, Schlemko being shopped
Devils Pride 26
If we get out of the deadline with a combination of a 2nd and two 3rds, job well done this year. Much more competitive than I thought we'd be, dealing with injuries, hanging around. Dropped these last two games at the perfect time, deal the one year guys for picks and continue the rebuild. MadDog2020
Travis Yost @travisyost I've heard a bit of variation on this but sense NJ D David Schlemko can be had for one mid-round pick.

MadDog2020
If we trade schlemko for a mid round pick, I'm going to be fvcking irate Yeah I thought he'd bring back more than that... I'd rather keep him than deal him for a mid-rounder.
CarpathianForest
Yeah, don't touch any of the D except Gelinas and Merrill.

He's a middling d-man that isn't physical or particularly offensively gifted, and had a -15 after being a scrap heap signing. A third was about all I was expecting/hoping for.
