NJDevs4978
Time to bump the new season thread Edited March 9, 2016 by NJDevs4978
NJDevs4978
Free Agency officially begins tomorrow afternoon but dominoes are already starting to fall...Chris Ivory goes to Jacksonville as they continue to throw money around. For all the talk of Fitz and Snacks Harrison, all the Jets' RB's of consequence are FA's, and rumors are Bilal Powell is going to be the latest ex-Jet Rex poaches in Buffalo. '7'
I thought the Jets soured on Ivory a bit as he got banged up and faded down the stretch last season. Suppose this is better than him ending up in New England. Jets are definitely drafting a running back now. Losing Powell on top of that would really leave us in a bad way. We don't have the cap space to go after a Forte so it will be a pick and a couple of scrap heap guys. At this point if we don't sign Fitz then 2016 is going to be a punt season. NJDevs4978
Yeah I was prepared for Ivory to go elsewhere after the six-carry fiasco in Buffalo and his injuries were a constant source of distraction in the latter part of the season. As much as I like Ivory I'd be far more annoyed losing Powell after he emerged late last year.
'7'
Also teams are going to be lining up for Damon Harrison. So say goodbye to him. It was an embarrassment of riches at DT and that just wasn't going to last forever in a capped league. Nature of the beast.
'7'
Jets were supposedly in on Pacman Jones...but are out now per the NY Daily News. And thank god.
'7'
It's really starting to terrify me the idea that Geno Smith will be back as our starting QB in 2016. No progress made so far. Our only saving grace is that the market for Fitz isn't really all the big and the destinations are somewhat unsavory compared to us. Still Ivory left us for the NFL black hole known as Jacksonville so who knows.
'7'
Jets kicking the tires on Matt Forte (may not be much air in them) http://nypost.com/2016/03/09/matt-forte-emerges-as-jets-potential-ivory-replacement/ Also heard they are in on Bobby Rainey (good low risk high reward option) Bilal Powell to the Pats is also being rumored, and it would be a swift kick in the balls as he's just starting to come into his own. Belichick would use him like a Kevin Faulk and he'd be a perfect fit there. Edited March 9, 2016 by '7'

I haven't been following free agency as much as I have in the past, but is there any talk about the Jets trying to sign Brock Osweiler? Haven't heard a peep regarding the Jets being interested in Osweiler. A lot of teams are set on their QB's so there isn't much of a market for Fitz this season so they're just waiting on on his price to drop. Though if they lose out on Fitz to say..the Rams (the one real suitor supposedly) and Osweiler is off the table, they'll be up a creek. Jets have signed Matt Forte. They moved quickly on this one. I think Powell is probably gone to Denver and the Jets will draft a back (and maybe bring back Ridley on the cheap or Bobby Rainey as a #3 guy) Edited March 9, 2016 by '7'

Not one word and it wouldn't make much sense anyway if we don't even have the cap space for Fitz. Things happening fast...Snacks to the Giants (wah), while signing Forte. NJDevs4978
And a potentially big domino falls in the Fitz question, Osweiler to Houston.
'7'
Snacks got an amazing deal with the Giants. Overpaid but what else is new. NYG is in desperation mode now throwing around awful contracts. Janoris Jenkins being the 2nd highest paid CB next to Revis is a joke considering there are about 15 better CB's in the league than Jenkins. Thought Fitz sticking with the Jets was going to be a formality more than anything else, surprised it may not happen. I think sometimes, as a guy who's had limited success in your career and has bounced around a bit, you gotta take a step back and realize you're in a pretty good spot. Really think Fitz should realize he and the Jets seem to work.

Honestly I think when push comes to shove he still comes back, if for no other reason than I don't hear ANYone rumored to be in on him at all. Unless his camp just shuts down leaks Lou-style. I can't really blame him or his agent for wanting Osweiler/Bradford stupid money but I don't think he's getting it.
NJDevs4978
Jets also cut Kerley (no big surprise there given how much the staff had no use for him) and Cumberland, freeing up around $4 million.

Cumberland had potential just never put it all together. He also never figured out how to block. Kerley somehow got in the doghouse and never got out of it. And now Vernon to the Giants for 85 million, 52.5 million guaranteed jesus freaking christ Gotta love the Dolphins' roster management dumping Vernon to sign Mario Williams. Can't tell if you're being sarcastic about Dolphins roster management, but I think they made out well with that effective swap.
NJDevs4978
The Jets and Fitzpatrick still supposedly 'nowhere close'...but until someone else comes close to meeting his price I'm not as worried yet. Clearly the Jets have SOME money if they were actually in on Oliver Vernon Btw I'd be ticked off if I were Mo that they're offering Vernon big money while showing zero interest in locking him up long term. This probably does end with Mo being traded eventually which could be a Revis like blunder. Edited March 10, 2016 by NJDevs4978
'7'
This Fitzpatrick saga is starting to look like a typical Jets bungle. We're not there yet...but we're close to it. I don't want Kaepernick or RG3 or heaven forbid Geno behind center next season.

In a lot of ways I can't blame the Jets for not wanting to break the bank for him...I really thought Fitz was going to come back on a reasonable deal (and he still might if there isn't another market for him). I suspect nothing happens with Fitz until he and RG3 are off the table
