Apparently Roy & Sakic weren't even talking on July 1st, UFA signing day.  i guess for quite a while haven't been seeing eye to eye.

This is good for Avs org.  I don't think Sakic will easily be able to find someone this quickly w/ camp a lil more than a month away.

How about Adam Oates? Did they ever play together? (Sakic/oates)

I was thinking Mark Crawford or Bob Hartley, both coaches Sakic played and won Cups for.

Always the risk with hiring former legendary players.  Egos get involved, and it's awkward when they're fired/forced out.

Not only that, you now have two franchise legends with a fractured personal relationship. There are no winners from any angle when these types of situations don't go well (and they often don't).

Certainly the timing wasn't good but remember when Scott Stevens resigned as assistant coach on September 9th. Maybe Scott and Adam Oates can combine as coaches for the Avs

Stevens is an assistant coach for the Wild

I think Oates would be a good choice.  I doubt he'll consider Crawford or Hartley because will you hold down the fort til I get the guy I really want?

If he does go with Travis Green, (Van. farm team) it'll cost him a 3rd rounder.  John Madden is ready.
