That Rangers nucleus that was so good for such a long time is getting pretty damn old or pretty damn gone. I think we're seeing ownership realize that their realistic window isn't exactly wide open, and these are two young assets that replace an offensive mainstay. It was weird thinking about NYR offense without Brassard last year... now, no Brassard and no Stepan. Pretty crazy.

The place we've won 3 Stanley cups since they've hoisted their last.

I'll jump on the bang wagon on bashing other playoff teams once we get there in a couple/few years.  RIght now my memory doesn't go back as far as it should to remember us being a serious contender or even having a mini-playoff run.

Your memory can't go back to 2011? Dude I think you've got way bigger issues than cynicism...

We have been a bottom feeder for a few years running. Our roster is still full of more than a handful of garbage and fringe NHL players.  Sorry don't see it turning around any time soon, we have a small handul of quality players but this team isn't making a run any time soon. Always comparing and living in the shadow of the rags is comical.  The fact they'll have almost 23M in cap space if Klein retires will help them fill the massive gaps.  When and if Shattenkirk signs with them I can't wait to see all they we didn't want that guy anyway. I would take their core over ours and that sucks. They've shed a lot of dead weight this off season we unloaded Merrill.  Leaving us as of now with a whole lot of junk to still deal with.

Cynical  = realistic to some of us.

I'll bash any fvcking team I want. If I drop dead tomorrow I've seen my team accomplish more than any Rag fan could ever hope to see in their wildest wet fvcking dream. I'm sick of Devils fans not having this exact same attitude.

I think the return for Stepan was ok, but Rangers fans were delusional (as usual) on their expected return for him.

They wanted packages like #7, #23, and Strome for Stepan and Raanta, so a decent hunk of them are pretty upset.

And what are the Rangers going to do for centers now after losing Stepan and Lindberg? Especially once one of current ones are inevitably injured?

Also hoping the stories about DeAngelo being a scumbag pos are totally true and he ruins that lockeroom.

Rags fans are upset, and they acquired a possible tumor for their locker room? Good by me.

This is the biggest question I have.  They are left with Zib and Hayes as their top 2 centers.  That's not very good at a critical position for a team that is looking to win now.  Overall, I think they got a good return for the 2 guys they traded, but it leaves them with a large hole at the C position.

The guy the Rags are getting is from NJ apparently. He has to be a Rag fan.

Also he just looks douchy. Look at his face

He's from South Jersey, so if anything he's a Flyers fan, and I think that was actually confirmed when he was drafted.

From the standpoint of wanting the Rangers to fail at everything, I'm a little worried in that ever since the McIlrath debacle, the Rangers have been very good at drafting, so they could very well make the most out of the pick they got.

It also leads me to believe that the price for Galchenyuk just went up beyond anything the Devils can afford to pay unless Bergevin wants to repeat the Weber-Subban deal.  Galchenyuk is probably a more valuable commodity than Stepan.

Hate to say it, but the Rangers are doing the right thing by realizing that their current core needed some re-tooling...I would've preferred that they kept coming up short.  They do always seems to find cap space one way or another when they need it...fvckers.

At least give Shero the entire offseason before making the situation sound hopeless.

Well since twitter sez we are drafting a defenseman, I'm sure Nolan or Nico fall to 3rd, which the Rangers will trade up to, and we will go against 2 good centers in our division for the next decade. :o:headlesschicken::headlesschicken:

This Stepan trade is not good for the Rangers unless they can flip 7th overall.  Otherwise they just got worse for next year and where are they going to use all this cap space?  The free agent market is terrible.  Yeah, Shattenkirk, but they had enough room for him before that.

Good deal - I choose to look at it differently. Not for nothing hope you don't drop dead tomorrow. After all it's just a game.

Some have been speculating it could b flipped other stuff for Duchene.

I think while they may go backwards this year having that cap hit go way I think benefits them in the long run, losing Nash after this year leaves them with even more space.  Those guys aren't playing at a level anywhere near costs.  So I don't think they need to replace them with superstars just more of a pay for what you get model.

He's from Sewell NJ - same area as Johnny Gaudreau.   I remember seeing an article from his draft year and he was a Flyers fan growing up.

Yep. #CBJ

Wonder if acquisition of Panarin is, in any way, a sweetener for Ilya Kovalchuk, who's been discussed by #CBJ. The two were teammates in KHL

Works for me, especially if we can get a young D like Murray out of the deal.

Value-wise, the Rangers lost that trade, but I'm still pissed because I would prefer their window to close slowly and painfully, with not much more than Brady Skjei to look forward to in the future. Now they've got DeAngelo who could be an exciting player, and a potentially solid player from this draft.

Also, I'm really confused about the Panarin/Saad deal, since I find Panarin to be the superior player by quite a bit.

The Blackhawks probably knew they would be able to afford to keep Panarin, and I know Saad had a great relationship with Toews and Kane

So what you're saying is...

...he's not Saad to be going back?
