Chuck the Duck
I have to give them credit. I thought they were going to take a noticeable step back this year, but they haven't and are playing great hockey right now. With that said, I will gladly let the Rags be the best team in the NHL in October/November. It's better than if we had to say that about them in June, which won't be the case. Matteau#32
To me, shooting percentage is a ridiculous stat. It should be goals/shots attempted. But, as the stat is calculated now, I do expect the Rangers to have higher than "normal" shot percentage simply because they are much more selective with their shots. They are not a "Fire at will" team. They tend to generally make the extra pass or 2 (or 40) to get the perfect shot. As a result, they lose a few shots on goal and shots attempted each game. Interesting, i dont recall any Rangers shooting 30% in any season during AV's tenure.

Didn't say 30% or that high. What I am saying, is because of their system, they will have a higher shooter percentage than the advanced stats guys say they "should". If you'd like, I can explain the mathematics behind my belief.

T0asterleav1ns
Just look at last year, the rangers fell off a cliff after a hot start, and Lundqvist very shortly (if not already) wont be able to bail them out anymore once the luck stops. Not saying they aren't a playoff team, but they have been getting an amazing amount of luck to start the year, not to mention a predominantly easy start to the year at least as far as home v road games. It will all balance out in the end. They will be out of the playoffs in the first round. ** Fell off a cliff is too strong a sentence, but their level of play never approached anything like they had at the beginning of the season after that. CarpathianForest
Rangers are the best team in the league right now imo.

PacificDevil
Id argue most of the East teams look tough, if you look at the inter-conference matchups so far East wins like 75% of them and will continue winning at about the same rate. Add in two extra teams in the conference - it's going to be tough making playoffs in the East

Funny you should say that - because that stats exists: Corsi shooting percentage. And funny that the Rangers at their current % is an outlier in that too. Now, I also expect them to be a higher than average team in terms of finish but that doesn't mean 11.3% is anywhere near reasonable. The highest full season shooting percentage in the past three years is Tampa from two years ago, at 9.1%. If you wanna bet the over on that, be my guest, but in terms of probability is just sheer folly.

Rangers are looking good but its a long season, they still have to question whether the D will hold up over the long haul and if the young offense can stay consistent. Lots for them to be positive about but as a Devils fan I'm not shaking in by boots yet.

We are not in a court of law. Are you asking if I sit and take my own stats on the number of shot attempts they lose because they make what I would deem an extra pass and then never get a shot off? No. I have better things to do with my time. 4 hours ago, Devil Dan 56 said: I wonder if there's a Henrique#14 somewhere that posts only about the Devils on a Ranger board. If that is how they take it, then they need to get over themselves. Yes, it is a long season. I'm hoping the D benefits from the extra rest this past off-season, but we shall see. For me, the REAL issue is whether Lundqvist finds his game as he has not been good thus far, this season.

thecoffeecake
Some kid named Brandon Tanev for Winnipeg tied their game with Detroit with less than 10 minutes left on his first NHL goal, and scored the go-ahead with a minute left. Undrafted free agent out of Providence. Sounds familiar.
