In the last two seasons, he got a lot of hate. From idiots with no respect for what he did here, mostly.

Why

I don't have a rational reason other than they keep wheeling him out there to play and he does absolutely nothing.

Given his injuries and missed games the past few seasons, but expectations for this season are fairly high in order for me to like and not regret that we landed him a few years ago, but so far this season even though it isn't the start we all hoped for, I'm not overly worried nor going to overreact.  I'll give it until 25 games in or so before making a judgment.

And then you had the blind fanboys thinking he was still good and deserved as many starts as he wanted at the expense of Cory in 2013-2014. That group of people were worse in my opinion.

That season still pisses me off, the team was actually good. Brodeur was far below average and if Cory managed 10-15 more starts they could have made the postseason as a 6-8 seed. I still remember people actually booing and heckling Cory that season, it was just unreal...

I heard borderline booing and sarcastic banter flung at Cory right up until the beginning of last season too. People are the worst.

It's been discussed before, but that's when I realized that we had some SERIOUS dummies among our fanbase...some of that crowd honestly and truly believed that a declined Marty's 2.51 GAA and .901 save% in 2013-14 knew how to win, while Cory's 1.97 GAA and .921 save% were a problem...I could NEVER have a conversation with those mutants more than a minute without losing my sh!t.  Most intelligent fans would KILL to see their team follow up a guy like Marty with a guy like Cory...Cory should've been embraced and appreciated from Day 1 here.  And considering what the alternatives were within the system...

Fortunately you don't see too much of that ilk coming in here (and they'd get chewed up and spit out pretty quickly if they did).

Anyway, regarding Cammalleri...he's actually getting off kind of light, because if this team had one or two wins at this point, he'd be getting destroyed (and he wouldn't be the only one, as it's really been the Taylor Hall show early).  I'm hoping Cam just gets a cheap one, and then just like that, the dam breaks.

With a team lacking true shooters, Cam will stay in the lineup and Hynes will continue to trot him out there and rightfully so as long as he plays a 200 foot game. He's a streaky player, let's hope he gets it going.

You keep trotting him out there because he's still on a not-cheap contract and because it's still very early in the season.  I agree, the Devils shouldn't do anything drastic with him until they start approaching the halfway point of the season, as long as he's not a completely lost cause out there.

On another note, I feel for Reid Boucher a bit...even though I've never been a big believer in him, it's gotta suck being stuck in that sometimes-plays, sometimes-scratched no-man's-land.  Especially when you're a young player who's coming off his best NHL showing.  But it's the same old story...if Hynes & Co think he'll give the Devils a better chance to win, he'll be in the lineup more often.

I can't for the life of my understand putting a guy like Fiddler in over someone like Boucher, or even Blandisi. The guy is 36 years old, has never scored more than 13 goals in a season (has 102 goals total in 14 years), has 0 points and 11 penalty minutes for us this year, and is a mere 5'11 205lbs, not exactly the frame of a 4th liner.  I get that he likes to scrap, somewhat, but I think we have that in DSP, and I've always been more of a believer in having your strength and muscle on the blue line, so to me I'd much rather see a young guy with potential like Boucher or Blandisi get some ice time rather than Fiddler who seems like a waste of a roster spot.

Seems like some of us have two issues one with Cammy and another with Boucher. IMO Cammy needs to wake up and Boucher can't skate. For me I would rather have Cammy wake up than Boucher learn to skate. Time will tell. Hynes is trying to work on a line that Cammy will produce on before he is injured..

Fiddler is a perfect 4th liner, and has done a great job in that role. Boucher and Blandisi are wings and don't really fit on a 4th line.

When we treaded for Cory my 1st thought was Holy &^%$! Did this really just happen. My friend said he'll make a good backup I looked at him in disbelief and said Nah the job is his. and when it wasn't from day one I was disappointed. When Marty comes out calling Cory a kid and will be good soon he came across a delusional.

Yeah Cammy needs to step it up but I don't think they will bench him nor do I think it'll help. Just hoping he goes on a streak soon.

i dont even think this team is up to game speed yet...which is on hynes imo as well as all the line changes.

you can see the team falling over themselves to keep up with hall lol.

Fiddler has already paid for himself in big-time high-pressure faceoff wins and amazing tenacity on the PK. Add onto that that he's actually playing really well, sets up some great chances; matter of fact, the moment I realized how much I liked Fiddler was against Boston. He set up 2 incredible chances, practically empty netters, for Reid Boucher who whiffed on one of them and shot the other one far wide. They easily should've been goals.

Also, say what you want about fighting/intangibles in 2016, but he re-set the tone after a shaky start to our home opener and got Ryan Kesler off the ice for 5 minutes; Kesler has a 60% faceoff percentage. And overall, Anaheim are the best team in the league on faceoffs by a wide margin; big time veteran move, and he disrupted their game at a pivotal moment.

That doesn't even take into account what's been reported as him taking on a semi-coaching role in helping the youngsters (Zacha especially) on faceoffs and positioning. I think you're really underestimating his role, I think he's a better presence on our 4th line than anything we've had since CBGB in 2012, and that was a unit of 3 guys, Fiddler is one. I see him as a healthy Ryane Clowe on a cheap contract on our 4th line; that's nothing but a positive.

Others have said this in different ways, but Fiddler plays a different role, and is doing some things that won't show up in the glamour numbers.  Also keep in mind that Boucher for his young career has scored 11 goals in 76 career games.  Yeah, in time, he'll likely score at a better pace than that, though it's hard to say HOW much better.  Maybe 20 goals or a little more over a full season?  All depends on what you think his upside is.

To be clear, when I said that I felt a little for Boucher (it is tough to be where he is at the moment), I wasn't saying that he should be in the lineup on a every-game basis, or advocating that he should take someone else's spot, just because he's a young guy.  I'm still not a big believer in him, never have been.  And FWIW, I do think this coaching staff is trying to take some steps forward and is trying to win...which means that the guys that they think will help the most in that regard will play...and Boucher has gotten some chances, without really doing too much (last season was a step forward, but not really some huge leap).  Maybe they think that's Boucher at a later date.  But if he gets another chance to stick, he's going to have to produce.

Fiddler has played well, he's doing what he's supposed to do. On a team that doesn't have a whole lot of scrappy guys, you really can't replace Fiddler with a Boucher or a Blandisi.

I still suspect one or both of those guys will have a new address in favor of a strong defenseman eventually.
