A Right shooting puck moving D man in the prime of his career? Carolina could outbid us? Buffalo  might as well. Be prepared to pony up! Or let him go.

I would prefer a 5 or 6 year deal. I believe he is 28. So the contract would end when he is 33 or 34. I wouldn't mind that

I'd be amenable to 6.

I can't believe that there is still debate to the signing of shatty. First off I doubt he really is going to want to come play here, lets be honest he grew up a ranger fan from the area and thats where he wants to go, maybe to the point that he may even go play for them for a heavily discounted rate. But who knows money talks and the fact that he wants to be in this area is pretty huge for us. I would have no issue giving him 7.5 per for 6 years. Again we have no one that is better then him or anyone coming up that is projected to be better then him, he instantly becomes our best Dman. we have alot of money, the only way to improve in FA is to spend it, lets start spending it to improve in areas that need improvement

The example I always think of is Ryan Clowe.

He really, really wanted to be a Ranger but Lou threw stupid money at him.

Not all guys are the same obviously, but money talks.

We all would but the point is that it's most likely going take a 7 year offer at top dollar to even get him to consider coming here.

we need him... Let face it... He is a 28 years old defenceman who would become our first defenceman... Be ready for a7 years contract and im fine with it

Yeah I think we'd have to.

Same here.  I won't love the contract, but he would instantly be the best D-man on the team (with all due respect to a favorite of mine in Greene).  The top UFA are almost always overpaid but it is what it is and we don't have many other options.

I'd like for us to bring on Kulikov on a 1-2 year reclamation deal. LHD, young, has big boom potential and will most likely be able to be had for cheap.

Alzner should be an option as well, especially if we lose the Shattenkirk sweepstakes.

From the Devils website:

The New Jersey Devils today signed defenseman Viktor Loov (pronounced "LUHV") to a one-year, two-way contract worth $650,000 at the NHL level. The announcement was made by Devils' Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.

Loov, 24, spent the 2016-17 season in the American Hockey League between the Albany Devils and Toronto Marlies. He was acquired by New Jersey from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Sergey Kalinin on February 18, 2017...

FWIW - Cammy is always great around Halloween - everyone in town knows where he lives and it's a heavily trafficked trick or treat area for kids. He's been outside his house - always in costume and will sign for anyone that comes by.

There are several players that live in Short Hills and others who have lived in town over the years.

Just remember that according to some he was milking his daughter's illness so he could take some time off.

That was LD.  I don't remember anyone else doing it (but he definitely got called out on it).

As a dad to a growing-up-way-too-fast daughter (8.5 years old and counting), I can attest that little girls rule...they just do.  They can make you feel like a billion dollars on your worst day.  And there's nothing that can bring you down more than seeing them sick, hurt, or in distress in any way.  This year was probably hell for Cam on a lot of levels.  Hope next year is a much better one for him.

This is the dilemma we face as sports fans.

Cammy seems like a genuinely good dude.  Good Dad, good community guy, good locker room guy, just.. can't seem to find many bad things to say about him as a person.

But.. as a player, I don't want to see him in a Devils jersey ever again.

I try and fight it but I can sometimes feel my disgust for Cammy, the player, bleeding into my thoughts on Cammy, the person - though I wouldn't go so far as to say he was milking his daughter's illness for some time off ().

That's awesome. Cammo seems like a really good dude.

You articulated my feelings perfectly there. Exactly how I feel.

Random 4 minute piece on #13: his family life & his "on-ice success". Surprised they mention where he lives and show the outside of his home.  His daughters are adorable though:

Wow good to see he's still milking his daughter for media coverage /LD

It's public info anyway.

Seriously, what is he going to be afraid of, that someone might show up and re-teach him how to play hockey?

I have absolutely no interest in Shattenkirk. The last thing a team in a full rebuild needs is a long term big money deal for a guy who's going to be approaching the end of his prime by the time the team is a contender. Kulikov is a really interesting idea, I've always liked his game.

Shattenkirk is 28. The Devils aren't 6 years off from contending if the right decisions are made, so people really need to drop that narrative because it's tiring.
