'7'
Put a heck of a scare into the Rags that year who just had the best regular season in 20 years. Brodeur came in in relief in game 5 and didn't fare too well. Terreri just got lit up at game 7 at MSG though. Rags scored two quick goals and you could tell Terreri was fighting the puck. I've always wondered that if Brodeur had a better 30 min in game 5 that Tom McVie (who looked like Bookman from Seinfeld) would've gone to him to try and stabilize the game.
Jimmy Leeds
Another frustrating series. I went to games 3 & 4. Game 7 was a debacle. Conacher kept scoring late goals to keep it sorta close. Rags put up 16 goals in the last 2 games at the Garden
Colorado Rockies 1976
Jerrydevil, I think the one that happened today 25 years ago was this one: I'm pretty sure that the one you posted was from later in the series (might have been Game 6, as it was a Devil home game, that they had won to force Game 7). The one you posted might have been the one where Chris Terreri told Brodeur something along the lines of "You gotta get in there!"...Marty for some reason decided to grab Kocur, who (according to Marty) simply told him in a quiet but firm voice, "Let me go." 5 minutes ago, Jimmy Leeds said: Another frustrating series. They only lost one game through two rounds during their Cup run.
Colorado Rockies 1976
And yeah, being that I was 22 years old at the time, and am now more than twice as old...yeah, this is not making me feel any younger.

You had Niedermayer just coming into the fold. Zelepukin, Guerin...out of nowhere Randy McKay suddenly looked like a players. Stevens had a great year after finally reporting. I thought Weinrich was going to be a steady rock on D for a decade (he was traded that off-season for Holik) Kevin Todd was going to be a star. All playoff losses to the Rags hurt, but this one probably hurt the least. I pretty much knew NYR was not winning the Cup with how vulnerable they looked during this series. That Devil team was actually 32-18-7 at one point that season (off a 15-5-2 run)...they were a lot of fun to watch up until that point...that was really their first flirtation with a gaudier "elite" record so deep into their year (they were on pace for 100 points at that point), and it was a blast to be a part of...but then they sputtered with a 2-10-4 mark over their next 16 games, and they though they kind of recovered at the end, they finished up 6-13-5 over their final 24 games (including a 7-0 loss on the final day of the regular season)...kind of killed some of the earlier fun. Neither Richter or Beezer looked particularly steady or reliable in that 1992 series

I'm glad the Devils were able to wreck their mojo just enough.
mfitz804
If you watch closely enough, you'll see a young Marty Brodeur skate by with his cheesy mustache. I definitely remember watching that game and that brawl, I miss the old days of hockey.
Jerrydevil
Colorado Rockies 76, I might have had the timeline mixed up. The brawl I posted was from Game 6, correct.

I was in 7th grade at the time, and gave my Rags friends at school hell after game 6... Sadly, they had the last laugh after game 7, as Tererri couldn't stop a fvcking beach ball. He said that Terreri almost got him killed by telling him to go out there to get involved.
Jerrydevil
Boy, the Rangers sure could goon it up back then. Kocur, Domi, Jay Wells, Kris King.

I think a couple of things hurt the Devils the following season, in 92-93: Herb Brooks (I just think he was completely the wrong guy at the wrong time), and the goaltending...it was just obvious that Terreri (who I did like) was never going to be anything more than a poor man's #1 at best, and Billington was never meant to get significant minutes. Marty couldn't have come along at a better time. I remember Fatso and Mad Dog grilling Lamoriello pretty harshly over Lou's decision to fire McVie after that season...they kept saying "So McVie's future basically came down to one game?"...their feeling was that if the Devils had beaten the Rangers in seven instead of the other way around, McVie would've still been the coach the following year. Daniel
Just think it's pretty awesome that the scoreboard had a Marlboro ad on it back then. If I ever come into billions of dollars and can buy a team and an arena, all the ads are going to be booze, cigarettes, guns, strip clubs and brothels.

I think Bill Foley beat you to it- I mean that's pretty much the Vegas economy right there, minus the casinos.
