Someone help explain to me, in concrete terms, why Kovy coming back to NJ is not possible?  Does he have a beef against the Devils?  Everyone is talking about his return to CBJ/NYR/or TOR, but not NJ...I'm baffled.

If he's looking to come back to compete for a Cup, he's more likely go to a playoff team than a non playoff team.

Because the Devils above all other teams should be sick of his crap. Let him be someone else's head ache.

I like his ability and I'm sure he could help a team that needs offense, but this will he or won't he bull is so old at this point.

Plus they don't want to give him the multi-year offer he wants.  And he has no loyalty to us, nor does this management team to him.

Not that I want this to happen or think that it will, but if the Devils suddenly decided that they now wanted Kovy, Shero could sell him on the "new Devils"....there's almost no one here anywhere in the franchise that was here when he bailed (I posted a player list a while back, but I think the only guys left are Zajac, Henrique, Greene and Kinkaid...and in Kinkaid's case, I think he played a game or two when Kovy was here).

Anyway, I think he's in for a bit of a rude awakening, no matter who he hooks up with.  I think the transition back into the NHL is going to be a lot tougher than he thinks.

I feel like, one way or the other, Kovalchuk's gonna end up on the Rangers.

I've started preparing myself mentally already

imagine if we traded him there and after the additions of chuk and shatt they won the Stanley cup...

We won't need to trade him there. After one more year of his infuriating indecisiveness, he can sign with them next year as a ufa.

Imagine if we traded him there and after the additions of chuk and shatt they get knocked out in the first round of the POs (fixed). There is a better chance of this happening.

not a chance I would be willing to take.. there are no signs right now that they are a first round exit team, they along with everyone else in the division pretty much besides us have gotten better with the exception of the pens and caps already having been elite.

this guy is going to end up back in Russia, the way this is spinning I can see it already. He had a while to have found a deal with a team that had interest in him and make this whole thing work out if he truly wanted to come back to this league. Devs get screwed one more time

They have pavelec at back up. They are one Lundqvist knee strain away from disaster

Not to mention that Lundqvist probably isn't in-his-prime Lundqvist anymore.

Feels like the Rangers have reached that "try to keep the sinking ship afloat" part of a competitive run.  They should still be a playoff team for a while, but I think their Cup candidate days are done for now.  They had their shots and didn't get it done.

Yep. Writing's on the wall. It's either that or Kovalchuk will tell Shero he'll only accept a trade to that juggernaut, Cup-winning machine of a franchise, the Yankees of hockey- none other than the New York Rangers, the utopia of the hockey universe where all players dream of playing, and championship tradition pours from every corner of the organization. [emoji849][emoji867]In which case, he'll rot for one more year in the Motherland like the little bitch he is.

I love that Pavelec is their backup now. He's garbage.

And that will hurt...they've needed contributions from their backups in recent years.  Pretty dangerous to depend too much on King Nothing at this point in his career.

Yep, Talbot and Raanta were reliable guys that could really ease the load on Lundqvist while allowing them to still win games. Not so much with Pavelec.

With our luck, Pavelec turns into the next Tim Thomas.

"I don't think this stretches on for real long" he says, lol. Well, it has only been stretching on since what, 2013.

That term and $ means he's staying in KHL. He's not getting that as a UFA (let alone from a team that has to trade something to NJ) this year and especially not next year when he's 35+.

The one trump card Ray could possibly do is retain salary. But if he is to do that, the other team is going to have to give up a lot.

I would trade him to NYR for Skeij and a 1st and retain 1/2 the salary.

I would too... The Rags however, would laugh and hang up the phone. He's gonna end up staying in Russia, I agree- those terms he wants are (predictably) absurd, and as I mentioned in a previous post, he's probably pulling the 'I'll only accept a trade to the Rangers' crap, which all but guarantees he stays in Russia.
