I've said before that Matt Moore isn't taking us to the playoffs having to start 16 games, and I believe that, so I'd rather take my chances on a guy like Cutler who's had success with Gase in the past. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. Tannehill should be ready for 2018 if he gets the ACL surgery soon and we move on. As far as pure upside goes, clearly there's no debate here, as to who could potentially be more productive. Cutler gets a base salary of $5 million that could go up to $10 if he gets the starting job. So he's being paid like a backup who might win the starting job. Does it cause the Dolphins to actually cut bait on Tannehill, which I believe they can do without a lot of cap pain, and sign a Cutler to a long term deal? It's not that implausible. On the other hand, what if the season turns out to be a disaster, and the Dolphins are in a position to draft one of those highly touted QBs? Yeah it sucks, I really feel for McMillan- kid didn't even get a chance to play a down from scrimmage, it was a freak accident on special teams covering a kick (something some fans have been giving Gase heat for, but it's unwarranted- Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor played on ST's their first couple of years in the league, it's just something that young guys have to do regardless of position). That Watkins deal surprised me, but I am happy to see him go for sure- he may have been injured a lot, but he fvcking killed us all the time and I hated him. Good riddance. They also shipped Ronald Darby out for Jordan Matthews, which is all kinds of weird, but Buffalo is a worse team today and I'm not unhappy about that at all. They DO however now have six picks in the first three rounds of the 2018 draft (two 1's, two 2's, and two 3's), which hopefully they blow, because that's a damn good way to build something if you do it right. Kick off and punt returns seem to have the highest probability of serious injury per play, to the point that they're always talking about getting rid of the kick off entirely. (Greg Ciano's idea of how to replace the kick off is pretty interesting). And is there anything about chasing down kicks or punts that made Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas better at linebacker or defensive end than they would have otherwise been? And while I'm old man yelling at cloud, there should be special emphasis on teaching the return team not to fvcking hold and not to even appear as if you're holding. Almost every time there's a kick returned for a touchdown that's called back, it's because of an inconsequential hold. People forget that ST's are important too- not covering kicks and punts well leads to better field position for the opposition, which, I don't need to tell you why that's bad lol. ST's are part of the game, and while a lot of ST's aces will usually be guys who aren't great at their actual position (guys like Walt Aikens and Michael Thomas come to mind- and Larry Izzo was a perfect example of a ST's ace), you have to have some better football players play on them too, unless you want teams starting on the 35 yard line or worse all the time. P/K) plus other de facto starters like nickelbacks, third down backs, third WR's, with the inherent lack of depth there aren't too many spots you can afford to carry 'specialists' who only play ST's and don't contribute anywhere else. [emoji31] At least Ajayi is out of the concussion protocol (for now). Of course Kenyan Drake is now in the protocol, so one RB comes out, another goes in. I can't remember a Fins training camp with this many injuries. And we haven't even made it to the second preseason game yet! I never thought that building could've been modernized to such an extent. I'm going down with two buds, one of whom is a Dolphins fan who hasn't been down there in years.
