Watching the vids of Nico, I say he stays healthier than Patrick over the duration. Just keeping your head up with the moves and speed he garners to avoid those collisions. McDavid sure show'd his moves and avoiding hits in the playoffs, obviously speed and moves are so paramount today. Can't believe Oilers threw $7m per at Mylan Lucic, he looked like a cow skating in the Anaheim series.
LittleBallofHate
Ok so Patrick had DOUBLE sports hernias... Andrew Gross @AGrossRecord At NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo, top prospect Nolan Patrick says his sports hernia was misdiagnosed. Patrick said he had sports hernias on both left and right side. Only one was diagnosed/surgery done on. ETA: Nolan Patrick said both sports hernias (left and right side) have healed. One through surgery, the other through other means/time. MadDog2020
I don't care about sports hernias. They happen. My bigger concern is whether Patrick is more prone to injuries since he's had several over the years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk As I understand it, the sports hernia is actually the injury he's had that's most troubling. Not a doctor, but I think that it's the kind of injury that can prove to be of the nagging sort and can also mess with skating if it doesn't heal properly. The other injuries he's had are bone breaks and I think a sprained knee, which won't effect his performance going forward, and didn't slow him down before as his 2015-16 season was excellent.

Triumph
As I understand it, also not a doctor, but that the hernia is not likely to recur. However, there may be other ligament damage that Patrick has incurred while trying to play with this injury.
Triumph
I haven't really commented on this debate because quite frankly, it's just not possible to know much of anything without watching either guy extensively in games - the numbers aren't dissimilar enough and we don't have enough data on Nico to conclude things one way or another. With this revelation that Patrick may have been playing hurt all year and still putting up the numbers he did, that's quite impressive. I was thinking that Nico was the right pick but with the revelation that Patrick was playing hurt possibly all year, I'm really not sure. I'll just be happy to come out of this with one of them.
Jerzey
From what I know about hernias, they can't come back in the same spot. I'm not sure about sports hernias, but I had an umbilical hernia and they put a piece of mesh where the organ popped through so it can no longer pop through there. As far as the broken collarbones go, my only concern is that he's made of glass there, but they could also be completely coincidental. Pretty much where I am. I'll trust Shero and Castron. Whoever they pick, they have a lot more extensive and detailed information on just about everything both of these kids have done in their lives since they were 12 years old, so I'll just reserve judgement and have faith in whatever decision the staff makes. DevilMinder
Quote Before driving up to Buffalo this morning, my belief was that the Devils might be leaning toward Hischier. A couple of whispers in my ear from NHL observers and I think I’m now leaning toward the Devils leaning to Patrick. Of course, I reserve the right to waver back and forth a few more times between now and June 23.- A. Gross Its going to come down to the wire on who the pick is. LittleBallofHate
In case anyone is interested, at the combine the heights/weights of Nico/Nolan: Mark Scheig @THWMark 4h4 hours ago Nico Hischier is 6-foot-1.5 and 178.55 pounds. Nolan Patrick: 6-foot-2, 198.82 pounds. #NHLCombine I was listening to something (NHL network?) and one of the guys mentioned that Nico's size (and style) is similar to Stamkos in his draft year so I looked it up and SS was 5'11"/176 so not quite but he was smaller than I remembered... LittleBallofHate
This article probably belongs more in the overall draft thread but I thought the most interesting part was about Nico/Nolan so I'll post it here instead: http://thehockeywriters.com/emptying-the-2017-nhl-combine-notebook/ Snippet: Who goes first? Nico Hischier or Nolan Patrick? The New Jersey Devils hold the coveted top pick in this season’s draft. No matter who they select, they will get a world-class player. After talking with several people at the Combine, the overwhelming sense I got is that the leader in the clubhouse is Patrick and it’s not close. In fact, not one person I spoke to thought otherwise. Overcoming his injury was certainly a question that many wanted to see answered by his fitness testing. Patrick completed all the tests, although the Wingate took a lot out of him. In his after-testing availability, he called the Wingate “terrible.” He had to sit in a chair for his availability. The encouraging part for Patrick was that he completed 12 reps on the bench press. It seems he’s over the injuries at this point. If the Devils feel the same way, we should expect Patrick first and Hischier second.
Devils Pride 26
If we're really attempting to connect with the fanbase, give me whoever destroys the bench press. Poster him up over every gym in NJ and we'll attract a raucous roid raging crowd. We'll partner up with that 24 hour gym on McCarter highway for pregame pump specials.
