The Devils have plenty of options for 3rd line RW and 4th line RW - Noesen, Blandisi, Lappin, McLeod, Speers, or even Hayes on his PTO.  It's on the top 2 lines that they needed an RW and I think that's where Stafford will end up.

I forgot about Noesen, he was my early pick for 3RW.. I expected johansson to play 2RW, with rico at 2LW.. so does henrique move to 1C or 2C or do we go zacha1 and Nico2.. staffard in the top 6 sort of takes some fun out of this... thanks travis

Sure if you ignore that ryder was signed at 2 yrs $7 mill. But I get what your saying, I doubt this move works out- I predict he won't have any takers at the deadline and is a healthy scratch by the end of season.

Damnit I totally misread this thread. I thought it said Devils Sign Drew Stafford for 1 year 800k. Didn't see the whole 2 year / 7 million dollar portion of it. What a terrible deal!

Shero has essentially turned Jagr, Stempniak, Fiddler, and Parentau into Johansson, Mueller and Palmieri. You're not going to convince me that this is a ZERO risk signing -- even the cynical Triumph.

Stempniak had 14 goals the year before he signed here. Fiddler had 12. The difference isn't exactly earth-shattering here.

Jeez guys, where did I claim they were exact carbon copies? Nobody gonna point out that Ryder has slightly fairer hair? The point is that they're both empty calorie players (and by that I mean Ryder in his last season). When they don't score, they're worthless. There's no "well you at least get strong two way play" from Stafford. And even when he scores, he probably gives as much if not more back by not being that great of a two way player. He's nothing like Jagr, Stempniak, PAP.

Just because it's a low risk move doesn't mean you have to automatically like it.

I seriously doubt he'll (Stafford) get top 6 minutes or PP time. Maybe PK.  If he totally sucks, he'll go the way of Smith Pelley, in the press box. It's not a great signing, but not a bad one. Just maybe, he'll be a decent fit. (whatever that might be) I'm hoping Lappin or Speers earns 2nd/3rd line minutes.

He's a RW and it's one year for $800,000. There is literally nothing not to like.

My thoughts exactly.  Not to mention that we needed another RW pretty badly, he's only  just turning 32, and also a good veteran to add to our plethora of new young talent.

This is a fantastic signing.  I really didn't expect us to attempt to fill this need, so I am quite surprised and happy.
