Grabner to Devils - confirmed, for 2nd round pick and D Igor Rykov

Recommended Posts

Dreger reporting that LW/RW Michael Grabner may have been traded to the Devils.

CONFIRMED - Grabner to NJ for 2nd/Rykov.  Can't say I like dealing Rykov, or a 2nd for that matter, but Grabner fits in with exactly what NJ wants to do here.

As AG correctly stated, this is unprecedented. Never has there been a trade between the two teams.

I am hoping this is for not much But we’ll see.

Didn't give up much imo, so it can only help.

2nd and Rykov. Seems a high price.

Rykov - who knows if he even ever comes over.

I will view after context of other trades and what they cost.

I also am not crazy about dealing away Rykov, but they desperately needed this. Grabner scores a lot of goals. His 25 puts him 2nd on the team right behind Hall.

Wow. I didn't believe my eyes for a second there.

A trade with the NYR. What is this world coming to?

He still wear 40? Well there goes the chances for us to hoist Clemmensen’s 40 to the rafters...

EDIT: I’m a mouthbreathing idiot and forgot about Coleman.

Yeah this will help a ton but not crazy about giving up a mid 2nd and probably our best d prospect for 20 games

One thing to consider about Grabner is that yeah he has 25 goals but he also has a ton of empty net goals - on the other hand, the Devils are pretty bad at scoring with the empty net so they could use a guy who closes out games.  He basically makes a line on his own, he's got tons of speed and gets breakaways all the time.  I don't know how they will jigger say, him and Wood because they play a similar type of game and I don't know that they should be on the same line together.

It's only getting Will Butcher that makes me tolerate the idea of giving up Rykov.  The Devils have a lot of random LHD prospects floating around at this point but none of them are 20 and playing regularly on the best team outside the NHL.

With Sheri saying we are still in rebuild mode, that’s a pretty high price for a rental.

Hopefully he will sign here.

But will that prospect come to the US? That’s my question, plus we can keep grabs and he brings speed plus scoring, which fixes Bratt’s absence

I mean, a top-6 winger is exactly what the doctor ordered. 2nd round pick seems a bit high but we’ve had a metric fvckton of high picks in the last few seasons and hopefully we start to see them in the NHL sooner than later.

I'm happy we moved for an attacking piece. Other than defenders being very expensive, especially at that time of the year, I feel like the major reason of our recent run of misfortune comes from the fact that we can't seem to score enough goals to give any kind of decent cushion to our Defense or Goaltender. You simply won't win games on a regular basis scoring 2 goals per night.

Honestly, the slowdown from some of the young guys like Bratt was to be expected. Happy Shero is moving, but I don't know about giving away a 2nd and a prospect for Grabner. Stats-wise the guy is having a goalscoring season, but historically I was never a fan and his stats are not impressive by any means.

I am not backing this with anything else than a simple gut feeling (that might be very wrong), but I feel like we are not done moving. I dont know why, but I feel Shero and Bergevin will do something together.

I posted in another thread, but he was at the Rock tonight and the Wild writer (I think) said he definitely wasn’t talking with the Wild

Gross just reported that Fitzgerald was under the impression that Rykov wasn't coming over anytime soon
