You'll never win with Schneider

You don't have to be a genius to get a sense of whether a player who is set to be a UFA has any desire to re-sign with your team when you're not in contention for a playoff spot.

Yeah I know, I just hear people talk about Chayka like he's the second coming sometimes and I don't get it.... I don't think he's done a very good job there.

well, the just signed another goaltender and I read somewhere that he didn't exactly love it there.

Well his house did get infested with scorpions. Pretty sure I'd want to get the fvck out of there if that happened to me. No thank you.

The results speak for themselves obviously. My guess is that has something to do with a combination of bad coaching and bad talent evaluation whether under Chayka or his predecessors. While they hit big on Keller, a lot of the guys that were supposed to form their young nucleus didn't pan out (Duclair traded for nothing and Domi having a disappointing season). They might have also tried to get someone better than Stepan for the seventh overall pick last summer.

In a way, if things crash and burn under Chayka, it would be a roundabout benefit to the Devils in that a certain number of other GMs will take it as a lesson that you can't win without gritty players like Matt Martin. Shero seems smart enough not to fall for that.

I can't remember who but I recently hear a commentator say Raanta had interest in resigning in Arizona. Even if he doesn't, I highly doubt he would pick the Devils as a destination since Schneider played in 69, 58 and 60 games in the 3 seasons before this one and is signed at 6 mil per season until 2022.

The premise of this thread is utter BS. I've been critical of Schneider this year, but he's still a great goalie. I think people need to realize that all goalies allow bad goals, and have bad years,

He was bad last year too.

Better than being infested with spiders.

That aside, Schneider will kill this team in the playoffs. He chokes at the worst times

I would say pin this thread, but it’s going to be very painful to see all the time when we miss the playoffs.

Shero’s first order of business after the season ends has to be to get rid of him. Maybe trade our first rounder for Lundqvist.

10 losses in a row. Absolutely inexcusable for a starting goalie. His putrid unclutch play is positively nauseating. It is the main reason they will miss the playoffs (and it's a certainty that they will at this point)

You can't play him anymore. HE CAN'T WIN GAMES. You want to see how far he's going to take it? It'll be 12, 15, 17 losses in a row? You think. If it wasn't for some lucky posts Schneider would've give up a fat 5 spot today.

Can he at least get us to OT 2-2? Can he maybe allow 1 or 0 goals ONCE? Can he steal a game like Hellebuyck just did?

I would be stunned if Schneider wins another game this season. I don't think he can

Brighten up, all those guys at The Atheletic assure me that winning is the most useless stat to measure a goalie’s performance.

Winning in itself is useless as a stat...but allowing three goals in ten straight games is almost more impressive on the negative end than Hall's streak was on the positive end. When's the last Devils goalie that did that, Chico or Ron Low in the dark days of expansion-ism hockey? Cory's playing at the level his record dictates, that's the problem. And he's by far the biggest culprit in choking away a playoff berth right now.

This is the 2007 Mets all over again...a long, slow death that you could see coming and yet still broadsides you. Now I'll never be comfortable even thirty points up in March till that y or x whatever is finally next to our name again.

I've seen this before. They're still technically in a playoff spot but they're dead. They're not making the playoffs. They didn't get far enough ahead before this killer road trip.

Columbus and Florida are about to pass us like we're standing still. This is an 0-6 in regulation road trip and you can bet your life on it. MAYBE, Kinkaid can steal a game (at least we know he can do that once in a while) and make it a 1-5 road trip. Other than that we may be like 6-7 points behind Columbus and Florida when it concludes

The Devils are done. They're done like the Mets were when they were ahead but done. Cory Schneider has destroyed the season

We were NINE UP not too long ago and you weren't even in the picture yet? Now Cory comes back and where's our 9 point playoff cushion Cory? Where is it?

With our luck they''ll somehow go 3-2-1 or 2-3-1 on the road trip (with either the offense or KK winning games cause we know Cory won't while it matters) then choke it away back at home.

The creator of this thread is being proven right.

it's ridiculous to be outplaying good teams only to know you have no chance in these games cause the goaltending situation is a mess right now.

i know that this team has defensive lapses in games too, but good goaltending will bail you out, which isn't the case here.

In plain words, the panic button has been pushed.

You can win with the guy who put up a .923 save% through 12/27, and the Cory of 2013-14 through 2015-2016. Hopefully we see that guy again soon, because yeah, you're not winning with the Cory we've seen over the last 10 games. No one is.

People talk about Cory stealing games for us, and being "clutch", and he did make a nice diving save with the stick as the puck was about the cross the line yesterday which sure was a beauty, but that second goal...? Man, that was fvcking terrible. Guy almost shot it from the blue line, and I get it was through a screen, but still. For all the sh!t Kinkaid got (and I'm not at all saying Kinkaid is better than Schneider, or that he's even a starting goalie to begin with), Cory deservers, and seems to be getting, equal sh!t for his play lately. Something tells me Cory may still not be right, either health wise, or perhaps mentally too, and I don't think you can play him right now. Give Kinkaid the starting job from here on out, unless he plays worse, which would be hard to do, and then evaluate the guys in the offseason.

There's a lot of rumblings out of Montreal that Carey price could be available. He has had a crap year for sure. Although Price is considered a great goalie, he's getting beaucoup $$ for many years to come. . How would you like to be saddled with that? What happened to the Corey that played 1st half of the year? His price is reasonable. I think Hynes is going to ride him out the rest of the year. Live or die with Corey. This will determine what Ray will do over the summer.

This is in his head now, and Schneider never struck me as someone with steely mental toughness. He's the anti-Marty when it comes to the mental aspect.
