New York Mets 2018 season thread

It's probably a little early to think about this, but as long as the Mets don't spit the bit over the next five games, they should be either 10-4 (if they go 2-3) or 11-3 (if they go 3-2) by the time that they face the Nats again (this time at Citi)...Mets will also have two games in hand at the start of that series.  The Mets wouldn't face the Nats for about three months after that.

Would be nice to have gone 5-1 or even 6-0 against them in April...but still have five games to play before the next Mets-Nats series.  Just don't go limping out of those games having lost four out of five or all five.  That will make the early sweep feel a lot less significant.

The Nats still have plenty of pride and we're just flat out not that good (though this is shaping up to be an above average year), I'd love to see 2 of 3 again because that would at least establish that their past dominance is over and they're no longer in our heads in any way. Other than the bizarre 2015 season they've thumped us at will it seems

Starters have been kinda disappointing overall this year.  No one's going deep and way too much laboring.  Still early of course.

It is just so damn risky bringing Robles into a tie game in the 8th on the road with his penchant for choking.

And they just survive as Holaday misses a go ahead HR by about 3 inches

This game really went off the rails. The foolishly pitched to Bour AGAIN and left one out over the middle, right in his sweet spot, and he deposited it out to left to make it 6-4. Cabrera and Flores combine to make it 6-6. Then Cespedes with a big hit down the left field line to make it 8-6. Familia finishes off the 9th without much trouble.

Mets are 9-1 for the first time in their history. Were cruising to a sleepy 3-0 or so win today before the Marlins made them do some work.

Mets getting seemingly every last break and just have everything going their way...the wins just keep piling up, in spite of themselves.  In so many other seasons the Mets LOSE both of these games against the Marlins.  Not sure how they're doing this, but I'll keep takin' the wins.

And these were games they pretty much had to get too with Thor and Jake pitching against that team.  Both were bloodletters but they did get it done.  Now tomorrow who the fvck knows with Wheeler, not expecting much there but at least they got the two wins in case they pull another last-game of the series dud.

It would be nice to go into the Nat series without them having any chance to take first place, even if they sweep.  If the Mets want to have any chance at taking the division, I think it's crucial that they have an insane April, because I could see them going .500ish from May on.  If the Mets can go 11-6 for the rest of this month, that would give them a 20-7 record for April, with 135 left to play.  If they can go 70-65 the rest of the way, they finish with 90 wins...and the Nats should be chasing for a bit (not convinced that 90 will be enough to win the division, but the Mets should at least be in playoff contention as long as they don't completely fall off).  All things considered, that's more than I could have asked for coming into the season.

So apparently TDA has a partial UCL tear and might need TJS yeesh, looks like its sink or swim with Plaw for the moment.

Way to go Sandy...by all means, keep sticking with a generally mediocre injury-prone catcher.  Not like he didn't have a history of getting hurt, but keep burying your head in the sand and hoping this time will be different.

He's remarkably consistent though lol

You'd think our genius GM might see a fvcking pattern after a while.  No, not Rip fvcking Van Sandy.

BTW Nido brought up...had a pretty dreadful offensive season at AA Bingo last year.  Can't see him being ready at this point.

Wheeler with 5 good innings and only 65 pitches thrown.  Guy might actually pitch into the 7th tonight.  About time a Met SP did that, heh heh.

Ironic that it's on a night where we're getting NO HIT by the immortal Jarlin Garcia.

Just imagine if Wheeler finishes this off and has another good start or two while Harvey keeps puttering around, they're gonna have a choice to make when Vargas gets back.

And Garcia's coming out of the game after 77 pitches.  That's kinda weak.

Was just thinking that...Matz and Harvey are on notice.  Neither one has earned any trust.
