'7'
Much better analogy. This is exactly like MacLean. I still remember first game Lemaire coached behind the bench he was shaking his head and telling the press they were not conditioned. That they forgot how to play hockey. That's how deeply unqualified MacLean was Sometimes you need to be patient when you see a good manager with a bad team trying every trick in the book to outsmart the other guy and steal a win or two. Good managers get teams to overachieve. This is not the time for patience. He has not shown to be imaginative, inspiring, savvy or an effective leader in any way. Heck we even had a damn batting out of order issue a little while ago. This is bush league Edited June 9, 2018 by '7'

To give you an idea of how low that number is; starting pitchers in the NL currently have a wRC+ of 23. Holy sh!t man. I look up and down that lineup and see an average offense and spectacular starting rotation. I have zero idea how it’s humanly possible for DeGrom to have an ERA below 1 in his last 9 starts and lose 7 of them. Because the Mets defy logic, reason, and mathematics. Do not apply those things to us as you would with conventional franchises. We're at the mercy of some malevolent force right now What's going to happen now is things will reverse. All of a sudden the Mets will finally start hitting, but the pitching will stink, and we'll continue to lose
Colorado Rockies 1976
There's no words. I have nothing to add. You guys have already summed everything up perfectly. Fire Callaway. Sandy's awesome approach to building a team will hinder ANY manager, but Callaway isn't up to the job, in any way. He has to go.
NJDevs4978
They SHOULD...but Sandy clearly sees managers as inexpensive, faceless middle men. Girardi doesn't fit that mold. Edited June 9, 2018 by NJDevs4978
'7'
Cespedes left the game in Trenton. Quad tightness. Starting to doubt he'll see the field again this year

True but it's gotta be a LITTLE different hiring a manager in NY, you gotta have someone with a little gravitas that can command respect and handle the media and outsized expectations. Boone doesn't have to do much with the Yankees but at least he's a name that has credibility there because he played in NY and was on national broadcasts. Callaway said it himself, this ain't Cleveland. Edited June 10, 2018 by NJDevs4978
'7'
The team has quit. From Cespedes on down to everybody. They are not trying. They have quit on their manager, the season, each other. Apparently he has the job for life no matter how many awful decisions he makes. 22 hours ago, NJDevs4978 said: They SHOULD...but Sandy clearly sees managers as inexpensive, faceless middle men. That, and since Sandy decided that Callaway was so awesome that he gave him a THREE year deal, money of course will play a huge role in the "We can't fire Mickey so soon!" company line we're sure to be fed shortly. Searching hard for a new manager would also require way more energy and motivation than 10 Sandys combined could ever dream of having. Season will be effectively punted away. Of course Cespedes can't play. HE DOESN'T WANT TO. End of story. There will be plenty of "setbacks". NJDevs4978
And Gsellman shows mental toughness unworthy of a Met - getting five outs in the eighth inning. It was so lax and mindless on Reyes part (75% of what Reyes does on the field is mindless anyway) he probably thinks the neighborhood play still exists/ And it wasn't like the runner was right at his feet. He had time, he had space. It was just textbook bad baseball With how he's looked this year this HAS to be the last straw

'7'
Mets release Adrian Gonzalez and Jose Lobaton. Gonzalez had only 3 hits in his last 28 ab's. Only 1 walk during that stretch too. Bet he asked to be released Ty Kelly and Dom Smith on the way up Had no idea Ty Kelly was still kicking around somewhere in the organization. Smith wasn't even hitting in Vegas Edited June 11, 2018 by '7'
Colorado Rockies 1976
Funny that now that Sandy actually woke up for a few minutes, that somehow Reyes is STILL here. And of course a complete nothing like Ty Kelly is back in the fold. That couldn't be more of a Sandy move. Since 2018 clearly just became yet another "punt the season" (of course it did), might as well give Smith the balance of this year with the big club and just deal with the lumps. Maybe Peter Alonso moves up too (from AA to AAA), but he's been cold lately...still getting on base via BB, but was hitting just .156 in his last 10 AA games. I watched maybe five minutes of this series. The Mets are just such an eyesore right now, even with the team getting solid starting pitching as of late. They can't hit, and Dom Smith and Ty Kelly aren't going to change that at all. I really don't know how you get a guy in Cespedes who doesn't have any interest in competing to actually want to get on the field. I haven't seen anything like this since Carl Pavano with the Yankees. Edited June 11, 2018 by Colorado Rockies 1976
