That’s fine, but being competitive and making the playoffs, etc. will make us a more attractive landing place for said impact dman. Still need the best team possible in the ice every year.

Not sure. If I were a John Carlson type, we'd be an attractive destination in that he would be undisputed #1 D man. Wondering if a Mike Green might fit the bill for a couple years.  Andy Greene starting to get long in the tooth. Wonder if anyone from Binghamton would step up like Jesper last year?

Off topic but hell a lot asked for it: Future first round draft picks have arrived!!! Won’t let me upload the photo but they’re doing well and mom’s finally getting some sleep!

wow, you know its been a miserably boring off season when I just had to scroll through two pages of posts about Martin brodeurs financial situation

Need someone to brag to. It's off topic but it's okay.  Some of you guys know I'm taking adult learn-to-play lessons from the Florida Panthers. I played growing up but haven't since 8th grade, an

FWIW, McKenzie said the DSP deal is for $1 mil.

Nice little interview with Pickles: https://www.nchchockey.com/news_article/show/927128

Snippet: “I remember getting some goosebumps and chills going out for Game 1 in Tampa. The blue lights flashing all over the place, the excitement and buzz in the crowd,” Coleman reflected. “A game I’ll never forget is Game 3. Our first game in Jersey. I’ve never heard a building that loud in my entire career. That was a ton of fun to play in front of. The whole game was relentless chanting. The fans were in it. We were in it. It was physical, chippy and we ended up pulling out a late win and blew the roof off the joint. Obviously we didn’t win that series, but it’s something we can build on.”

pretty much inevitable once you permit a courting period.

At least the courting period is legit now...in the past, I think obvious tampering was going on all of the time, and everyone knew it (though some were obviously very good at covering it up)...these deals that used to get done seemingly in minutes as soon as the "official" UFA window was underway?  Right, I'm sure there was no contact prior to July 1.

Would like to take a look at Emile Poirier on a tryout or two-way contract. The more I read about the guy the more he seems like a fit. Game built on speed and physicality. Reclamation project where there is a known reason for a numbers decline (admitted alcoholism). Just seems like a lottery ticket worth buying to me.

Also found this Tobias Reider's 2007-2008 season which is pretty hilarious to look at:

Very interested to see where the B-level UFAs land once the Tavares saga is over.  Have to imagine we're at least somewhat involved with a couple guys.

If not, curious to see if Ray can pull any trades out.  I think you simply have to address the situation at D, and, ideally, the 2C slot.

deHaan and a slight overpay for JVR and I'll be a happy camper.

We have the cap space. Can't sit on our hands this offseason.

But whatever Shero does I'm behind.

I don't know if the 2C slot gets addressed right now because, well, I just don't think we, or they (management), are sure of what we have yet.  I mean, does Nico stay firmly on the top line this year as the undisputed 1C?  I imagine so, but if that's the case, then what exactly happens with Zajac and Zacha?  You could make the case neither are 2C material, for opposite reasons (Zajac being on the decline, and Zacha not yet ready for a 2nd line role and minutes), but neither should be relegated to the fourth line either, so that creates a bit of an issue.  I don't see Zajac getting traded simply because of what he's meant to the organization, and also probably having little value at this point in his career as well, so even though I'm still somewhat optimistic about Zacha's future and I'd like to give him time to develop, if the feeling is that the second line center spot needs to be filled, I think that means Zacha is on the way out.

I know it has been said, but I continue to be impressed that the Devils have not been connected to a single rumor. Really locked up communications. Can someone go over and make sure the lights are on in the offices?

Not only that, we haven’t heard word one from Shero post-draft. Nothing. Zilch.

I can't even think about Nico being anything other than our 1C, because we don't have anyone else who can compete with him for that position. Zacha and Zajac are a 3C and 4C, whichever order you want to put them it.

But, as we lack a true 2C, I am assuming that'll be Zajac and Zacha will be the 3C.

Barring any trades or free agent signings, of course.
