I would not be willing to trade a 1st round pick at this stage of our rebuild. Things can easily go south.

Oh Jesus Christ dude it’s been 9 hours. Relax.

If we’re still at the point that we can’t give up a first round pick for someone as good as ROR, then we might as well blow it up again, or at least just go back into tank mode.

I'm with you on this.

ROR is a fvcking beast, and would've perfectly slotted into our 2C slot.

If we're not willing to trade a 1st because we're afraid of the rebuild failing, then what's stopping us from shipping out the vets and going into a full-on rebuild (again)?

Can't believe we didn't do a single thing today.  We'll see if the coming days yield an interesting trade.

The trade is close but St. Louis gave up a bunch. They got a good center in return, but he didn't come cheap and his contract isn't cheap.

As I said earlier, the Devils' problem is that, for a slew of reasons, they didn't get much from the draft over the years they sucked. If anything, applause to Ray for not biting on what was a pretty terrible FA class. We might actually escape the day without adding an albatross contract. That feels quite nice. There was nothing out there worth overpaying for.

Agree.

Good lord, why is it that some fans think if something big doesn't happen on 7/1, that it's all going to sh!t?  It's like some of you can't wait to start bitching.

I mean, it doesn’t matter, and I guess the Isles can tank without being so obvious about it.  If things turn up Millhouse for them in the lottery, they get Tavares replacement to go with a really sick prospect pool.

But yeah, right now for Isles fans this has got to be like getting tobacco rubbe in your eyes after getting hit in the face by  Mike Tyson.

I do think things aren't looking up for the Devils. They just don't look good on paper. But there's no intelligent way to change that fact in a significant way, today, tomorrow or next week. And we aren't going to trade our way to greatness either. We can pull of maybe one more big trade with the assets we have. And if we do, it should be for a d-man.

I've accepted that the only way we're getting better is through some good drafts and through some of our untested prospects turning out to be better than expected. Maybe there's some decent FA's we pick up over the next few years in future FA classes. I also have faith that Nico is going to take huge steps forward.

ITS THE FIRST fvckING DAY OF FREE AGENCY AND THE ONLY PLAYER ON OUR TEAM WHO WAS A SIGNIFICANT FREE AGENT IS BRIAN fvckING BOYLE.

STOPPPPP ITTTTTTTT

I know you get pleasure out of trying to be the "voice of reason", I'm not going to argue with you over it.

A lot of teams got better today and picked up free assets, we didn't.  That's all I'm saying.

Shero's on the clock.  This team as it stands doesn't make the playoffs unless Hall has another herculean effort up his sleeve.

I also think that is cheap for a player of ROR's caliber. With NJ trending on the up, it would be a decent step back if that 1st round pick were even top 17-20. Ray made it seem like things were moving into more of a win now direction over the next 1-2 years. Oh well though, the ROR to STL rumors were starting as early as last week so it seemed like that was the team for whatever reason.

This is true. But it didn’t need to happen today.

There’s no clock. But we’re certainly not as strong as we ended the season, UNLESS the prospects come in and shock us all.

de Haan isn’t signed yet. Maroon isn’t signed yet. There’s more coming. I’m not judging a GM on one day.

Neal is also on the board, unless I missed something which based on the day I just had would be absolutely probable.

I was a little down seeing some of the deals today, but the off-season is not won in one day, and Cups aren’t won based only on free agents either.

Alright Filppula is a one-year deal. He's a space filler and the Islanders are going to have plenty of cap room.

I ain’t getting excited about a fringe signing of a dude with a vampire name.

@HockeyPulz  Ian Pulz Retweeted Arthur Staple

Isles lost Tavares and signed Filppula + Komarov. I feel like this is very much like when Niedermayer walked in free agency and then Lou signed Malakhov and McGillis to try and mitigate the damage

@StapeAthletic

Filppula is a one-year deal for $2.75 million with #Isles.
