Whole lot of fuss being made for a 3rd liner, imo.

Long as we don't get suckered into 4M+ AAV I'd be happy.

Have a bad feeling this guy's going to get Lucic-money, which would be awful.

If the initial word was that he was getting 1yr for 1.7M, I don't see how us, or anyone else, would be anywhere near 4.  Regarding the 3rd liner thing, I don't think people are necessarily making a fuss about it, but rather that most of not all of us would like to see him back.  He was by all accounts a good guy on the ice and in the locker room in his short time here, and he brings some much needed size to our otherwise small team.  Add on the fact that he comes at a pretty reasonable price, and there's just not really any downside to having him here, that I can think of.  Is it the end of the world if he signs elsewhere?  No.  But would it be good to have him back?  Definitely.

3rd line schmird line... It's about fitting into your role and doing well when you're asked to. After 1st line, your line is mostly irrelevant.

Agreed, totally. To the contrary, he has a 17 game head start over other teams he hasn't played for, he knows the system, the people, the area, etc.

But the way some people are talking about him its like he was a NJ fixture for years and we're letting him walk away. Its not that situation. I would be very happy if he was re-signed, I'm just not on board with being upset that he's "walking away" after being on the team for a very short time and not by his own choosing.

Honestly, the guy is really slow. But somehow he's always in the right place when he needs to be there. Very rarely out of position. I only remember one time where he got absolutely burned by speed.

I think he has tremendous hockey sense which fills in that gap that his speed would otherwise leave. He KNOWS how to utilize what he has so he's not completely hampered by what he doesn't have.

Interesting Stat of the Day: Maroon played 17 regular season games and had 10 Assists. That ties him for 15th overall on our team for the entire season. Compare to:

Brian Boyle: 69G, 10 A

Blake Coleman: 79G, 12 A

Miles Wood: 76G, 13A

Brian Gibbons: 59G, 14A

Travis Zajac: 63G, 14 A

Stefan Noesen: 72G, 14 A

He also had the exact same stats as Andy Greene (3G, 10A), who needed 81 games to get there. I get he's a defenseman, but it was an an interesting comparison to me.

All of the above says to me that despite his slow motion skating, Maroon knows what he's doing.

Your team can get absolutely killed in transition if Maroon is on the ice.  If you look at one of the goals Tampa scored in the playoffs, the Tampa gets possession of the puck in its own defensive zone, takes it into the Devils end, whoever has the puck skates around for a little bit and eventually scores a goal while Maroon is still chugging to get back into the Devils defensive end.

He was great on the powerplay, but he's still a third/fourth line guy, who we have plenty of in the system.

It could just be his agent saying other teams are interested in order to get the Blues to move faster on things or to encourage them to give a bit on the terms of the contract.

I'm actually baffled by how bad this Islanders team is going to be, just my goodness. Fine, they lost Tavares, but instead of handing the keys to some youngsters like Bellows and Ho-Sang, they're instead tossing out 1-way contracts to 4th liners like they're Halloween candy so they can effectively logjam all their prospects for next season. Like look at this sh!t

Beauvillier - Barzal - Eberle
Lee - Nelson (RFA) - Bailey
Ladd - Filppula - Komarov
Martin - Cizikas - Clutterbuck
Johnston, Kuhnhackl, Kovar

Leddy - Boychuk
Hickey - Pulock
Pelech - Aho/Toews
Mayfield

Lehner
Greiss

I count 14 forwards with either secured NHL spots (Barzal, Beau) or 1-way NHL contracts before signing Nelson. Maybe we can grab Nelson from the Islanders on the cheap? There was some rumors last season we inquired on him near the deadline so Shero and company might already have some interest.

Jeez, imagine the predicament if Chirelli and the Oilers hadn't let Snow rob them blind on the Barzal and Eberle deals.

Lou is just embarrassing himself now. It’s sad.

Yeah, this is Boston Braves Babe Ruth-type sh!t.  Except that even that version of Ruth had a three-HR game left in him.  I don't think this version of Lou does.  Lou had his time and it was a hell of a run in NJ (even with the bad years at the end), but man does it look like it's going to be ugly for him with the Islanders.  Feels like ANY chance he might have had to enjoy success there left with Tavares.

According to Brooks: ‘Talks between the Lightning and Senators regarding a potential Erik Karlsson trade have subsided. Indeed, Dallas has re-emerged as the most likely destination for the two-time Norris recipient if Ottawa moves him within the foreseeable future.’ https://nypost.com/2018/07/09/rangers-and-their-top-pick-agree-to-wait-a-year-for-each-other/amp/

You had to think they hit some kind of snag. Otherwise the deal would have been done days ago.

If I had to guess - Senators are asking for the moon and Tampa's like "nah we good".

I saw a tweet somewhere on HF that Shero asked Zajac to waive his NTC. Anyone who knows more about these people, know anything?

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Zajac is a pretty useful asset. If we dont hear about the rumor again. I would assume its not true or.....he prolly said no.

He's basically an overpaid role player at this point and not a John Tavares looking for a Cup with another team or a scorer who needs a change of scenery to break out.

My point is mainly he probably doesnt want to leave.

EDIT: He has three kids that I would guess he wouldn't want to uproot. He's kind of a proven team player and with that I would assume he's not the kind of guy who would uproot his family when the future is looking bright here. This is why you don't hand out NMCs and NTCs like candy.
