I mean.. will people actually go to Devils games to gamble on other sports?

Is that a thing sports betters do?  Go to an event to watch other events?

I'd be willing to bet there are a significant amount of people who would do that. Some of those sports betters really don't even care about sports. But if there's a place in NJ where its legal that they can go, be at an event, and also gamble, I think they will come out in droves.

Hey, if it helps out bottom line as far as attendance is concerned then I'm all for it.

Though if this turns out to be wildly successful you can bet the facebook fans will start the "REAL FANS ARE BEING KEPT OUT OF THE ARENA BY GAMBLERS HUR DUR HUR DUR" narrative.

That and the same ones complaining about ticket prices will be the same ones dropping $ on betting.

Overall, I like the idea and sponsorship deal.  I personally don't bet on sports outside of the odd super bowl bet, and will have no use for this lounge.  However, having a mini-sports book style lounge inside the arena makes sense as the sport betting market in NJ is exploding and is going to be the largest in the country very soon.  It will bring value to the arena and more money into the organization, which is a good thing.  If it attracts more fans to the games (something I have a hard time believing will happen) even better.

The 1 thing I don't like is the idea of putting betting lines on the scoreboard and having them there continuously throughout the game.  It's not necessary, especially since the bets are all going to be placed through an app, which will have all of the lines already.

Also, where is this lounge going to be located?  Is this going to be where the goal bar used to be, or are they converting 1 of the lower level clubs and opening it up to all ticketholders?

The only sports gambling I do is my fantasy football team, so I have no idea if this might attract gamblers.  Still, I don't really get it.  You have to place all the bets on the app, which I imagine you can do anywhere in the state.  It seems like the only attraction is that there a bunch of TVs to watch the games you're betting on and the odds are also posted on some kind of LED board.

I just want as many fans in the arena for Devils games as possible though, so I guess it can't hurt in that respect.

According to this article...

"Located outside Section 18 on the Main Concourse of Newark’s Prudential Center"

So if that's correct I'm guessing it's the area right under the escalators going to the upper level underneath the high school hockey jerseys. Pretty sure they have the Devils kids club thing in there in the past. It's a decently large space and makes the most sense for something like this.

lol it's like bulldozing a playground to build a casino in its place.

I can imagine they will set up a kids Devils area someplace else.

Per Darren Rovell

"JUST IN: @CaesarsEnt becomes second gambling outfit, joining William Hill, to sponsor @NJDevils.  Will have premium area space in Prudential Center to promote app downloads, 1 of 8 mobile sports betting apps in New Jersey, + encourage betting within arena."

Ok then, I don't care to see the place full of betting opportunities, but sure why not. Money is money.

Seems a bit much to throw in 2 right away but like ya said the money is good for the team. Those people always trying to get you to fill out a form to win a free vacation annoy me way more than this.

That times 1000. We both know you aren't giving me a free vacation, OR free tickets, OR even a free t-shirt when you make me sign up for one of those fvcking things.

from that ceasar's photo - and the fact that they talk about section 18 - that looks like they'd take over the old fire lounge which is actually not a bad idea.

the club sections - at this point - are down to just the two center sections of the lower bowl (section 8 and section 19). they still cannot sell enough of those to fill the two sections consistently. it would make more sense to just have one (old ice lounge on players bench side - section 8 ) and then use the opposite side for an open space for this gambling/fan section. They could still have the bars and the food - just charge for them rather than include in the price.

Ugh, that brings back memories of me actually taking the bait.  The “prize” is that you have to sit in on a timeshare pitch.  They called me s couple of times until I said I wasn’t interested.  Basically the plot of a South Park episode.

It definitely makes sense financially for the Devils.  I just hope they don't turn the experience of being at the game into basically being at a sports book, just with a live game going on.  I can see the constant odds being updated on the giant scoreboard getting annoying really quick, especially if it is on there during the run of play.

I used to have friends who would intentionally sign up for those things and call it their vacation. They said, if you could withstand the pressure, it's basically like a 1.5 to 3 hour commitment out of a whole weekend (or sometimes 5 days). They said it was worth it.

I once sat through one for a $100 gift card, free dinner and free ice cream. But, I was actually interested and did buy a time share. No way in hell I was doing it and NOT getting the free stuff!!!
