Seems like it can't hurt, but didn't we hire a 'stats' guy a few years ago?

Sonny Mehta is the last high profile hire I remember, he left the team at the start of last season though. Rachel Doerrie also left the team after last season, not sure what their analytics presence has been like other than those two.

Shouldn't take analytics to figure out how many bad hockey players we have on this team. It's pretty obvious.

That being said, more help is never a bad thing especially if they don't rely on it completely and just use it in addition to everything else.

Personally I don't have any issues with teams using analytics, I just can't be bothered to care about it.

As people say, couldn't hurt bringing someone like this on.  From where I stand though, if analytics is really going to make a big impact it'll have to be in aiding the draft.  Otherwise, it didn't take a PhD from Cal Tech to realize that Milan Lucic and Andrew Ladd probably weren't going to age well.

Yep, that's who I was thinking of.

Going to have to start caring, the NHL is going full player tracking next season remember.

Right. I don’t watch hockey for a math lesson. Nerds.

So which one of these guys is Dellow?

Dellow was working for Edmonton when they traded Hall for Larsson.

I read on reddit (aka, take it with a grain of salt) that the Hall trade was the reason he left Edmonton.  He was infuriated by the deal and essentially walked out after it went down.

So needless to say, he wasn't the person suggesting the move.
