Shero isn’t the only reason Pittsburgh won a cup (and went to two) but pretending he had no hand in that is just silly.

That just seems so very unlikely.

Neither is winning the lottery, but if I bought a ticket I'd still root to win the whole pot than root to split it with someone else because it's the outcome that is most likely.

Doe this mean were not making the playoffs???? 🤓 j/k

All kidding aside, Whether you liked Hall or not it was a trade that needed to be made. Hall needed the change of scenery as much as we did, if there was any chance of him signing long term (which IMHO there was not) it was gone by mid October. Though I do not think he was a cancer I firmly believe the longer this dragged on the more negative effects on the other players there were. His next contract needed to get done, there is a lot of mental masturbation probably going on in his head, what if I get hurt, is this team I'm on any good, if I wait UFA $$ Years location...Etc... Ray I'm sure ran the numbers and took what was the best deal.

We have a good foundation with Nico/Jack/Pickles/MB2 now ad picks and prospects on def like Smith/Walsh now Bahl plus whatever we can trade out at deadline this year not to mention new coaches with (hopefully) a new system. As a Devil fan I'm disappointed in this years team but I'm excited about their future. Lets Go Devils!!!!!

If he was and after the trade devils mystically start winning... he is our langenbrunner. With McLean everything is very clean like McLean’s and Hynes’s heads. But who will be our new Kovalchuk?

Shero didn’t build squat, he fine tuned around two of the top five players in the sport. Rutherford won more Cups in fewer years there.

Actually he literally did build their first Cup winner. And like MB3 pointed out having the best players doesn’t automatically win you championships. It took the greatest goal scorer of this generation 13 years to finally win his first Cup. It’s almost like it had to be the right team or something...

yeah to claim Shero had nothing to do with the cup in 2009 because he landed 2 generational talent is ridiculous. He had a really good core to build around but he still had to surround them and bring a lot of help.

For their cup in 2009 Shero added Staal, Craig Adams, Phil Boucher, Cooke, Dupuis, Eaton, Fedotenko, Garon, Gill, Godard, Goligoski, Guerin, Kunitz, Minard, Satan, Sykora and Zigomanis. None of those guys were on the team when he took over.

And let's not forget that they made it to the cup finals the year before... then they had other Shero additions like Hossa, whitney, Roberts, Laraque, ruutu, scuderi, hall, etc

And Shero still had some additions on the roster for their cup in 2016, Bennett, Dumoulin, Kuhnhacki, Maata, Murray, Pouliot, Rust, Sundqvist, Zatkoff

So basically from the 2009 cup Shero brought in 17 guys and 10 more for the 2016 cup. And 7 more that we're brought by him in 2008 and made it to the finals.

But yeah... he had nothing to do with all that success. lol

I'm in the camp of rooting for Arizona to suck. He isn't resigning there anyway and draft position in the first round is much more valuable than the difference between a second and a third round pick.

It could happen to, this is Arizona we're talking about

Yeah i'm absolutely in that camp too. i mean from all scenarios... i want to get the highest possible first round pick more than anything else.

Arizona missing the playoffs means we get to pick somewhere between 4th and 15th... and a pick in the 70 / 80th or so.

Arizona making the playoffs and losing in the first round is getting us a pick between 16th and 24th... plus a a pick between 78 and 85 i think

Arizona winning a round in the playoffs is getting us a pick between 24 and 31.... then between 55 and 62... depending how far they make it...

Then Arizona re-signing taylor would get us probably 2 late first round picks...  but that's likely not happening anyway

Won’t happen they have a solid team.

We are guaranteed the 2021 3rd round pick, which can be upgraded to the following:

To get a 2nd round pick, Yotes have to win a playoff round OR re-sign Hall.

To get a 1st round pick, Yotes have to win a playoff round AND re-sign Hall.

Bottom line, do we want two 1st rounders (chances after 24th pick in 2020 and 2021 can be any way), or 1 early pick and a third rounder.

One early pick and I’ll take my chances in the 3rd round. However, I don’t see ARI not making the playoffs

It's being coined as the "Hall Curse", but Kuemper left the game injured last night in a blow out loss.. this slightly increases our chances of Yotes missing the playoffs for the 4th-15th pick.
