You trust that our GM will lock it up within the next few months, and if he doesn't, plenty of time to say the sky is falling and talk about trade scenarios; not sure where the absolute URGENCY has come from all of a sudden within the fanbase, other than self-inflicted as a point of stress and paranoia, and lazy/dubious reporting of the trade talks by people on Twitter who in the end don't have a great handle on the talks one way or another, but need to harvest "clicks" to their sites for ad money.

Your first mistake was reading any of the cancerous content posted on Facebook and most of twitter. Too many people who watch 3 games a year and play NHL 19 but think they're fvcking experts on the team. Complete traaaaaashhhh.

I'm really not sure the return won't be as good midseason - especially towards the trade deadline when more teams are looking to add that final piece for a playoff run. The impetus to sign Hall, for me, is that everyday that the 2020 offseason grows closer, the more likely he is to test the UFA market.

Well to be fair we've been burned by our top players walking for nothing more than any other franchises in the NHL. So the PTSD is somewhat justified. I mean honestly name another team who had as much top talent in their prime just walking in the last 20 years... 

That being said there's no need to be paranoid at this point IMO. Shero has a flawless track record when it comes to that so theres truly nothing suggesting he'll fvck this up

Yeah and if you put those... while he was never amazing. Clarkson walked when he had the most value he could possibly get after 2 good seasons. We dodged a bullet there in a way but we also left some decent assets on the table holding on to him when he was never going to stay

Meh, I honestly forgot how old Madden was, but really counting Holik and Gomez in retrospect seemed similarly ridiculous.

I never been one to exaggerate the appeal of coming to NJ - especially in the past few years. But I really don't see any reason to believe that we've had an above average amount of key players leave over the years. When contracts are up players leave for above value deals - that's what UFA is - happens to every team. The Devils have also had plenty of players re-sign with them over the Lou years - even in cases where the player had tensions with Lou (Marty, Patty).

It's not as much about the players, it's also about the assets we've literally throw out the window for years leaving the team deprived of assets to restock.

You'd think someone who's fav player on the team was acquired with picks we got a for 43 years old player would understand that.

OR how about just being open to talk contract during the season so you can keep your players and not give them full power to just walk for nothing?  We missed the playoffs the next year you don't think Gionta's 28 goals he got in MTL instead would have helped? then he got 29 goals the year after.
