This is what I was thinking in my post - not that the Devils would strip Greene of the 'C', but that he'd realize this is Taylor Hall's team for the next decade if Hall chooses to stick around and volunteer the captaincy as a show of respect to him and the organization. It'd make me respect Greene a whole hell of a lot, honestly. But for all I know, not being in the room of course, it might just make things awkward or something. Again, pipe dream. You have a team (half) full of guys who have only known Andy as their captain. Well you don't factor in how upset i am to have Greene as the captain of my team while you look around the league and all the captains are studs. The ONLY thing that moderately worries me, is if the team is not entirely sold on Smith, for whatever reason, after this year, I could see them bringing Greene back as a bottom pair/PK specialist (as he should be entering this season) or 7th defender (I'm not sure if he's ready to call it quits, so that might not be an option for him). If they keep him around, we'll have more time of him wearing the C and not passing it on to the next viable candidate, whomever it may be. I know I'm sounding like a broken record here, but.. the nightmare scenario of Hall getting hurt, being untradable, and then walking in the summer seems all-too-plausible to me. To be honest, with Hall nothing has changed for me. It has always been the case since he arrived that this team would have to start making the playoffs and being competitive for him to stay. During the playoff season my hopes were high, after last year my expectations dropped to basically zero. The first half of this season was crucial. I fully expect Hall to be traded.
