Rangers are still the center of the hockey universe in Brooksland.

I mean, that is his job.  He will always have a bit of a slant towards them because he is the NY Post beat writer for them.

He is also at least willing to criticize.  He was quite down on players like Chityl (or however you spell it) and Andersson.  He isn't on the butthole licking level of Steve Valiquette.

Brooks definitely doesn’t hesitate to shred that team (which also caters to the NY fan, as they’ll do the same, often too much).  Brooks usually harps on ice time for certain players as his main sticking point.

I wish Valiquette could give up 10 goals every game.  Someone really needs to remind him that his Ranger career amounted to 39 GP, 27 starts, and 14 wins.  Dude, you were barely a footnote in Blowshirt history...stop carrying yourself like your jersey number is overdue for a rafter hanging.  fvcking douchenozzle.

Ray went to scout Mini game a day or two before trade deadline. I think he made an attempt, but couldn't get an acceptable deal.

Would anyone consider trading Palmieiri to Nashville for one of their top 4 D?

no way, you don't fill one hole by creating a crater in another position. you trade picks and players that are not in your first two lines.

I would for Ekholm.   Rough playoff performance this year aside, 4 more years at 3.75 for that guy is a total steal.  I assume Josi is off limits.  I want nothing to do with PK (salary, age and term left on contract) or Ellis (awful since he got paid).

Offense comes from defense, and the Devils have none of it. Palmieri will never have higher value than he has right now and the Devils are in much more dire straights for a D.

You folks are putting way too much stock in Kyle Palmieri.

If you have to include him to get a good D man, you do it, plain and simple.

Palmieri doesn't offer this team anything if he isn't scoring goals.

The Devils can.always sign a winger to replace Palmieri. Getting a D man is tougher.

It all depends who is being offered. Very few of our players should be considered untouchable.

Ekholm-Sevs

Greene-Vatanen

Butcher-Carrick

Smith

Smith could get back pairing minutes if Butcher could slide over and play his offhand. Hopefully he can, he has the speed and vision needed to do so. Still needs work but would be light years better than this year.

Ekholm or any of those Nashville D (some more than others) are all-situation defensemen. A solid D would be immensely more valuable to making us into a contender. Most of Palmieiri’s production could be filled by Eberle or others on the UFA market. Not to mention, we’re getting a shot in the arm with a plug in and play top flight forward.

I think Nashville is primed for a shakeup, they haven’t had a sniper since they lost Neal and Palms would be a great fit. We need a D in the worst way.

Love Palms but business is business.

Observations about a few of them:

#13: That’s why he’s captain. I knew there had to be some reason.

#16: Comedy, I like it.

#28: With Taylor being eligible for extension, I must have completely overlooked this fact.

#71: Smart answer kid.

#72: Excellent call-back, kid has comedic chops.

#99: He May be funnier than Wayne.

Thanks for posting this.

I don't know where you're going to find a perennial 25-30 goal scorer for $4.65m/year to "just replace" Palmieri. Building a winning roster is ALL about holding onto those thrifty signings that score you goals the way Palms does, while not breaking the bank so you can fill out the team around him.

I mean, sure, you can find those 25-30 goals elsewhere, sign a high end UFA winger, but it'll cost $8-9m/year, and what will that money take away from in the long game of putting the right roster together? That's a $4-5m you can't throw toward Hall or Hischier in a few years, or whoever it is we're trying to retain once we're closer to the cap, or even other UFAs. That's a whole other player right there.
