Well Gabriel, but he was all over the place and didn't have much hockey ability

It was short-lived, but to me this is a Patrick Maroon replacement, and probably a significant upgrade.  Maroon was more of an enforcer type guy who got lucky goals from bounces that came his way - Simmonds is/was pretty skilled on his own.

Yeah I wonder if Ray kicked the tires on Maroon, got a no, and went this way instead

Gabriel didn't mind getting his face punched a lot. I've never seen a guy so willing to fight but so bad at it.

was it not reported that the Canes offered 8 x $7.5 and Aho countered at 5 x $9.5?

I can't imagine that Aho will sign this.

If he does, I can't imagine Carolina not matching it.

Aho has already agreed I'm pretty sure, or else it wouldn't even be at this stage. Player has to agree to the offer before it even goes to Carolina to match.

If I am the Canes, I am ready to let Aho walk. Canes will be getting 2 high picks in the next two years. They can count on Canadiens to ensure they do.

Holy sh!t are we on different pages today my man.

from what i understood i don't think Ago signed it so far

That would make more sense, this screams of the Canadiens missing out on all big name free agents and just throwing a bone to fans saying "we're trying!"

Considering the Canes financial situation, from a business stand point they may have to unless they can match the offer but if they can match it, then by all means yes.

Banking on a team not having enough money up front to make it happen.

I know he's a nut job but doesn't the Owner have deep pockets?    He bankrolled the AAF or whatever that football league was called for the better part of a month.

TSN just said the Canes only made ~25m at the gate this past year - and this contract would owe Aho 21M over the first 12 months.

Woof, this is a tough spot for the Canes.
