Next, sign a contrat to our 2 remaining player waiting arbitration (i feel that will happen today)
Then... make the difficult decision to move from strengh zone to weaker one. RW is needed no ? And i will feel way more comfortable with another strong D.

But yeah... I'm greedy !

Not sure if the RW is that much of a problem if we move Coleman to the right and if Simmonds can get his game back

Hall - Hischier - Bratt

Gusev - Hughes - Palmieri

Boqvist - Zajac - Simmonds

Wood - Zacha - Coleman

Hayden - Rooney - Anderson

Vatanen - Subban

Butcher - Severson

Greene - Smith

Mueller - Carrick

I don't think Wood's taking 4th line duties.

He seems like a potential odd-man-out to me.  Maybe a trade for a mid-level LD is in the works?

To move Wood, Management got to be really certain that Boqvist is for real !

well you can always bring back Coleman on the left side.

trading vatanen + wood  + wtv could potentially get us a very solid LD

Cause really if we trade for a LD without trading one of ours... it's likely going to push butcher out of the lineup (not Greene unfortunately)

Damn you are already using Coleman on the right side ... i'm all dizzy with all your Jazz hand and magic moves !
But i would be ok for a Vatanen+Wood for solid LD.. But things rarely works this easily ! We should have a really special GM to put such a fragile and delicate move !

... Oh wait...

Hall—Hischier—Bratt

Gusev—Hughes—Palmieri

Boqvist—Zajac—Coleman

Wood—Zacha—Simmonds

Second line needs Palms to finish the playmaking of Gusev, Hughes. Third line is excellent and can both shutdown and score. And what a solid fourth line-Simmonds mentoring Wood. Zacha and Wood have good chemistry, too. That line will win us a lot of offensive zone face offs.

Put Laine on one of those top two lines.  That would be something.

Aaah there is way more greedy than myself... now that's awesome ; )

If it’s true that Winnipeg is disillusioned with him primarily because of some supposed lack of a two way game, a deal that centers on Bratt and a first next year probably gets it done.

im hearing lots of chatter about Laine to MTL.

But landing another shooter with all the playmakers we have would be somethin'

Plus he's big and adding size to our top6 wouldnt hurt too much

And it's really good that we aren't living under the CAP system... just us.
That will helps us having Nico, Hugues, Hall, Laine all at 10.

We really are super lucky ; )

i didnt know this but one of the leafs assistant gm is Brandon Pridham who was heavily part of creating the latest CBA

Quote

Pridham is the Leafs’ Collective Bargaining Agreement specialist; he helped draft the CBA that came out of the 2012 lockout, before joining the Leafs in August 2014. You can spot his fingerprints on some of the more creative moves the Leafs have executed in recent years, like the Clarkson-Horton deal and the Dion Phaneuf trade. In a cap world, Pridham’s ingenuity for how to work with and around the rules is ever more essential, especially given the Leafs will be more squeezed than ever by salary restrictions as their stars get second contracts. In the Tweet announcements, the Leafs indicated Pridham would continue in his current areas of expertise.

we're certainly seeing him at work now with the latest trade they did

i dont understand why Atlanta was abandoned so fast while Bettman has been holding on to the Coyotes for like forever

Honestly? I think it’s cause Atlanta failed once already, attendance was pretty atrocious, and new owners didn’t even want to keep the team there.

The Yotes seem to be drawing better as their team has gotten better, ownership even as it changes actually wants to keep them there, and there is a strong belief once they move back into Phoenix proper, attendance will be significantly better because of how well it was in the past and it being a million times easier to get to than Glendale. Source: when I was at Davis Monthan AFB for a weekend, it was a freaking half hour drive from downtown Phoenix to Glendale. But DM to Phoenix was a few minutes

yeah maybe location was an issue. its like in Ottawa its not a good location and its hurting the attendance for sure even if its in ontario

The other thing I’ve heard with Ottawa is not only is the building in the middle of nowhere, there’s only one main road in and out that takes you to it. I’ve heard traffic is a nightmare for Sens games.

The NHL was propping Phoenix up for a long time when Atlanta decided to sell. They just couldn't afford to float 2 franchises at once and the Winnipeg group swooped in. I'm sure Bettman would have preferred to keep them in the US. I think the NHL was helping Buffalo around that time too.

I was critical of Ray last summer. I still am. The point you are missing is that last year sucked very badly after finally getting to the playoffs after several years.

I don't care that we have buckets of cap room this year, it was still a sh!t year last year. Looking at that roster, any competent GM would see how awful that defense was and that goalie regression was likely. I mean, Cory couldn't win one freaking game after Jan 1 2018.  We needed to shore up our defense and goaltending and Ray did nothing after Shattenkirk failed.

I am happy for this summer, it's going really well for NJ, but last summer was still very poor.

This is very true. We have a light rail construction in progress right now, but until then it's only horrible busses or drive your car.

The arena itself is actually really nice inside, the issue is the location (and the farm team they are icing this year)

I once heard that Ottawa has the fewest number of NHL scouts of any team in the league, and a lot smaller office staff.

Melnyk is just a parasite on the team really.
