What the fvck, why are teams desperate to help the Leafs?

I'm scratching my head too. Let's say the trade was Kerfoot for Kadri. Kadri is 3.5 years older but Colorado still probably wins on that. So then we have Barrie for....Rosen? And Colorado retains 50% of Barrie's salary? And then all that's left is a 6th for a 3rd...neither of which are high value picks.

Toronto makes out well on this one.

The only things Dubas didn’t do here was wear a mask and use a gun.

Kadri does have a couple of 30+ goal seasons (last year was a down year).  Avs better hope he finds that form again, because damn this feels like a serious win for the Leafs.

I mean, I get that Barrie might have been expendable with the young D coming in...but you couldn't even get a 2nd round pick? And you retain half of Barrie's salary?

The leafs just got a Top-4 D-man AND put themselves in position to re-sign Marner....good one Colorado.

If i’m Ray, I’m flying to Marner to hand deliver a 5 year deal worth 12 just to force the Leafs further into cap hell.

And if they don’t match, we get a hell of a player for four firsts.

I hate Toronto, and now my hatred for Colorado has skyrocketed

I imagine the way Dubas talked Sakic into this was by downplaying the value of Barrie, as he's UFA next year and due for a significant raise. Colorado figured they're not going to re-sign him given their roster and Toronto argued they can't either. Still, it's a bit of fleecing.

A team offer sheeting Marner at an 11M cap hit would be beautiful right now. Toronto is still in a bit of cap hell, especially with needing to re-sign Kerfoot and Ceci (could be 7M combined AAV). Toronto still has somewhere around 4M they need to clear. Locking Marner in at 11 would really put the pressure on them.

Actually, I'm wondering if Nylander is going to be available. The Leafs need their supposed star winger, but he's really their best path out of cap hell. He's coming off a poor showing in 18-19 and I just wonder...

yeah the leafs wont just go... oh well if we can't afford Marner we won't match... they'd trade another lesser player to a loss to make sure they can keep marner before anything else

That's my point. I'd love an offer sheet to lock Marner at 11. The temptation to trade Nylander, which should already be on the table, would be just that much greater.
