Saw that too, Buffalo was calling apparently. You know, the team that got his rights and he said fvck off to.

this is the equivalent of being drunk in the middle of the night, picking up the phone and texting your ex “u up?”

well technically that doesnt work cause its not vesey calling the sabres asking to trade for him lol

it truly sucks cause as we know being succesful is often a cycle... often when we were amazing the rangers sucked (and the habs for me) so it was always good... then it was painful that we sucked and that they were good... now we're on our way up and the rangers seemed to be crashing fast... but looks like they have lots of assets to rebuilt faster than we'd hope. It sure helps when players just want to go there, saved them from not drafting a first rounder for like... 10 years in a row

If it’s a sign-and-trade and the deal is Bratt and a lottery protected 1st, I take that in a goddamn second.

To get Trouba, you have to give up something of real value so as much as it would pain me, I also agree if that is what Shero is offered, you have to take that deal.

You understand they’re trading him because they can’t afford him, right? They don’t have the ability to demand a king’s ransom. Bratt and a first seems pretty fair to me.

A first round pick from the Devils is better than one from some other teams that's for sure. But just because they can't afford Trouba, doesn't mean they can't afford any d-man. There's a reason I didn't say I think they're looking to trade Trouba for a player of equal value. In terms of the Devils, I could see Butcher being involved in a deal there. They'll save plenty of money like that, even after Butcher signs his next contract.

I'm also hung up on the idea that the Jets would take a 2020 first with nothing in 2019. They are not a team planning to win down the road. They're win now every year. The Devils do have 2nd round picks to give this year, but the Flyers and Rangers both have a first.

This is what my options are for Trouba: 2020 1st Rounder and/or 2019 2nd Rounder, Will Butcher and/or Jesper Bratt. Pick one of each, if worst case, throw in the 2nd rounder. I dont think Shero parts with Ty Smith, I wouldnt want to.

Ty Smith, to me, is OFF-LIMITS.

Of course, Jesper Bratt is off-limits to me but the reality of it is not what I think but what Shero thinks.

And I'm not too sure that Trouba isn't too enticing for Shero to pass up if their asking price included Bratt.

not sure i'd throw all that for 1 year of Trouba but its probably what it would take

I know their cap is a bit tight with all the other guys they have to re-sign, but Trouba and the Jets have not gotten along in recent years and he wants out. Rumor was he wanted out last time too. He is pissed the Jets  have been low-balling him and now that he has proven he was worth what they should have given him the first time around he's definitely going to Jet if he can. Someone would have to go to make room, if Trouba already wants out it's an easy decision for him to be the one moved. He's still an RFA, so Jets have that going for them. Worst case scenario he pulls a Nylander.

Given that the Jets window to win is now, what about Butcher and Bratt for Trouba and leave the picks out of it?    I think I would do it.   Huge upgrade on D and I still want to see Zacha given a shot a 2LW.  Even if PZ doesn’t work out on the 2nd line, it’s easier to find middle six wingers than top pairing D.

Edit: Shero would certainly need to have a good sense that Trouba would be willing to re-sign to make this deal

I don’t make any Trouba deal without an absolute, stone cold, 110% assurance that he’s signing an extension, or without an extension already in place.

I’d much rather package Zacha in a deal with the Jets over Bratt. They do like bigger players up there.

And perhaps you may be right about them preferring bigger players that won't get pushed around as much.

They can take Zacha with my blessings.  spacer.png

(of course that's wishful thinking on my part and they'll want Bratt instead.  :(   )

Would be a little surprised to see both McLeod and Zacha in the organization come September. But neither would be the centerpiece of a trade for any player of value.

you'd think that but then every once in awhile you see a trade like the Martin Erat-Filip Forsberg trade. Then you realize anything is possible

If Zacha and Bratt's draft positions were swapped people would be fine with how things have turned out. 90% of the trade Zacha crowd are just salted because they can't accept that Zacha just isn't going to be as good as you'd hope a player picked at that spot would be. I just don't see the rationale in selling low on him just to make him go away so you don't have to watch him anymore. Isn't it easier to accept it and admit he can still be a useful player? This is like a metaphor for running from your problems vs just facing reality and making the best of it. Zacha is worth more if we keep him than some "Martin Erat" type deal.

It would have been nice if things turned out different. They didn't. Build a time machine or get over it.

Agreed. Why not go a step further down and give them Q or McLeod?

Now you’re just being silly. Zacha is a top 10 pick that is good defensively, is durable health-wise (something Bratt has yet to prove), and has  now scored double digit goals in a season without even coming close to reaching his full potential.
