If the Nets win a title in Brooklyn

People can complain about the Nets leaving NJ but let's be honest, there's such a frigging stigma around NJ if you're not already living here.  KD and Kyrie would not have been coming to the NJ Nets.  Who's the biggest FA signing (not re-signing but outside guy actually coming here) in NJ sports history?  If you really look at it it's not a great list.  The Nets list includes Jeremy Lin and an over the hill Alonzo Mourning.  The Devils' best FA signing of the last fifteen or so years was probably Zubrus.

Plus if anything the best thing is how this trolls the Knicks who built their whole season around free agency and tanking for ping-pong balls and wound up with dead air cap space and the #3 pick.

Jason Kidd could have left. He didn’t. So I’d say he was a pretty big re-sign when the time came. But I knew someone would post how Durant and Irving never would have come to the NJ Nets, (gotta get that dig in at ourselves at all times, lest we believe NJ is actually a great place to be 🙄), never mind that Irving grew up in West Orange a Nets fan. Don’t let that get in the way of that self-loathing narrative though.

Kidd's the same deal as Kovalchuk, Elias, whomever...yeah we can RE-sign guys, but actually convincing them to come here when they haven't been here is another kettle of fish.  I doubt Kidd would have come here as a free agent, but once they traded for him and went to the Finals different story.  Brooklyn has that hipster vibe that seem to attract people now, cripes the freaking Isles are about to sign Panarin, when did Lou ever win bidding wars for a FA other than Kovalchuk (who was already here)?

It's not self-loathing, it's self-aware.  When you're actually in NJ you like it but on the outside there's an inherent bias - you hear nothing but the bs how it's NY's little brother and irrelevant, high taxes, etc.

Part of that has to do with the people who live here. Find any state in the union that engages in the amount of self-loathing people from NJ do. There are people from here who tell people from out of town when they ask ‘oh I’m from NY’. They have no respect or pride for their own home state- people lump themselves in with NY or Philly, that other sh!thole. Have some fvcking pride in where you’re from, drop the damn inferiority complex, and tell NYC and Philly to fvck off and be proud to be from NEW JERSEY, NOT NEW YORK OR fvckING PHILLY (not you specifically, I’m speaking generally here). Tell people on the outside how fvcking stupid and wrong they are- actually do something to eat away at the stupid, ignorant, idiotic stigma morons on the outside have. Our own fvcking citizens do nothing to help the state’s image at all.

I don't think the Nets could've competed for a title in this climate, where free agents pick a destination three or four together to build championship teams.

Milwaukee hit the lottery and have a window with Gianni, but otherwise teams in non-marquee markets are at a ridiculous disadvantage. Cleveland only got one because lebron is from there and drafted him.

The NBA should just contract about 28 markets at this point. All these dudes just team up and go to big cities. Why even have a team in Memphis, or Charlotte, or Sacramento? I hope Giannis re-ups with Milwaukee when the time comes and shoves it up everyone’s ass, but he’ll probably just leave and go to the Lakers.

Wasn't attached to the Nets enough to care about them leaving and don't really care about the NBA overall.  I do like seeing teams that play at MSG be irrelevant, so Durant/Irving makes me happy on that level.

Also, I believe Kyrie is from South Orange, so maybe he would have gone to the Nets if they were still in Newark.

I have a mild attachment to the Nets due to the fact that my father used to take me and my bro to Nets games when they were still playing at Rutgers (waiting for BBA to be completed).  We were very young (under 10), so at that age, we just thought it was cool to go.  Hoops never truly took for me...I tried to get into them in the early 90s, went to maybe 5-6 games, but basketball just doesn't do anything for me.

But yeah, I think more than anything, I like seeing James Dolan looking like a complete ass yet again, because he's such an entitled little nothing.  And I like it even better that it's his next door neighbors who had the offseason the Knicks tried so hard to set themselves up for.

That being said, though I fully get taking this plunge if you're the Nets, no one can tell me there aren't red flags with these moves.  They better hope that Durant comes back and is still Durant, and that Irving is on his best behavior.  There's some blow-up potential here.
