Don't have to look too far. Way way way wayyy worse sexually offending comments has been said here about Taylor Hall vs Amanda or Erika. lol

Yeah, are we no longer allowed to offer sexual favors in exchange for goals, or do we have to instead take them out for a proper date and treat them like a gentleman?

I'm sorry, I love this place, have donated many times, and I have run a large forum before so I understand what it's like to have rules and the need to enforce them, but this entire thread screams of "It's 2019 and you can't say anything anymore".

With all due respect to the admins, mods, and users of this forum - people should learn to ignore certain things and move on.

Or maybe we should just stick to civilly discussing hockey, and leave it at that...

That's an idea, but not sure it's all that practical.  Part of what makes this place thrive is activity and involvement, and there's only so much hockey to go around.  It's bad enough that we have to go 3-4 months over the summer with little to no hockey talk whatsoever, and even during the season like now, there's 5 days off between Devils games.  Not only that, but when we are actually engaging in Devils/hockey talk, part of what makes the conversations good, entertaining, and engaging is some of the other non-hockey related talk, which is where we kinda get to know each other a bit better and how we think/feel about other topics and issues.

Again, it's not my site so I'm not going to criticize too much, but I think I'm a pretty sensitive person and I try to be inclusive of all people and accepting/tolerant of everyone's feelings, but if it gets to the point where it feels like we have to walk on eggshells around here then it kind of diminishes the fun and would lessen my desire to be active here.  I guess the point is just that if you start alienating people and creating an environment that is so restrictive, this will be come a very lonely place.  I'm not saying it's there, but I just hope that it doesn't head in that direction.

Is civil discourse really the same as a "bullsh!t dissertation"?  This is part of my issue - you (I) can't say anything without someone (incorrectly) labeling your free, not to mention civil, speech as "bullsh!t".  Everyone has to be mute sheep unless we say exactly what you want and how you feel.

we're seeing it with movies and stand up comics right now. It's becoming very very very tricky to even talk or joke about certain subjects cause it MAY offend someone.

If we start using people's feelings as a gauge as to what is okay or not, it's incredibly tricky cause some people have a very very low tolerance making things a big ridiculous. I always encourage people to grow a thick skin vs having everyone around them walking on eggshells constantly

Yep.  The last decade has seen a huge shift and emphasis on that - don't get me wrong, I think it's great that there's been sort of an awakening by the masses and people are collectively more respectful of other people's feelings, but I think it's gone well beyond simply being aware and courteous of others, to the point where it essentially hinders any type of meaningful, constructive, and productive dialogue and conversation.

Like anything, context is key.

If one member tells another to perform a sexual act on him, that's meant to be offensive. But nobody should be offended by @MB3 offering Taylor Hall a BJ because he's so excited about his on-ice performance. Except maybe Taylor Hall, possibly, but even that is debatable.

to be fair, while i agree with this statement, it was also requested to keep it PG-13, which I guess this technically does but not really.

If we're gonna use censored curse words as fair play under the new rules then a LOT of posters are going to catch the banhammer, me included lol. I think we all know when a post goes "too far" and we all just need to use our brains before clicking that post button. It's like what Justice Stewart of the Supreme Court once said about pornography, it might not have once succinct definition or look but "I know it when I see it"

There's a fine line between "funny" and "too far". I try to keep a toe on that line so as not to be offside.

I think a lot of posters here have missed the point.      DM reaches out to you if you're out of line...  and he's been having to do it more.
He was simply reminding the collective of that line and pre-warning...    too many are crossing too often; it's embarrassing...   fix it.   Or you'll find njdevs.com account/ the site itself doesn't work anymore.

If you haven't heard from him...  you're probably not pushing to past the line but just be cognizant of your posts.
Ribbing on each other has always been a thing here...   sexualizing beat writers and getting really personal with attacks?   That's never been tolerated; and he's just reminding us of that.

Of noteI can't recall anyone saying anything sexual about Brooks.

It’s a valid point, but to be fair, I was called out for my Q meme for the first time in this thread. I was never contacted, told it was inappropriate, asked to stop, none of that. So was I out of line or not?

It's not about bans - this site has never been about banning people.  It's just about running a more polite site.  I've certainly used the censored curses on here plenty but I just wouldn't do it on a post asking for things to be more PG13.

(I'm not a mod and would like that to be removed from my profile)

I knew I should have locked this thread after I posted it. I think Aylbert  said it best, I am just reminding people of the line that shouldn't be crossed. We aren't the wild wild west like twitter or facebook groups, one of the reasons we moved from the old school NJ.com forums was because the lunatics ran the asylum.

For the beat writers, you can say they suck/excel at their jobs that is fine, but comments about physical appearance are probably a bridge to far.

I have always asked for PG13 here, you can see threads from the beginning about that, especially since posters here used to get in trouble for browsing at work and bad stuff popped up in the work filters.

Cursing is fine, I do it myself during bad games, but again, keep it civil once the heat of the moment passes.
