Sounds like a self motivated kid.

SterioDesign
hopefully he proves us that picking a goalie in the top 10 would have been foolish
mfitz804
Jaromir Pytlik. That's a name. 50 points in 56 OHL games last season. Edited October 7, 2020 by mfitz804
Devil Dan 56
Jaromir Pytlik... I think his name was randomly generated by EA Sports.

xxchaznjxx
Not bad for a 4th rounder: Quote I am notably a little higher on Pytlik than the industry. Early in the season, he was a late first rounder for me. He did slip a little to the early second based on production over the whole season. He is entrenched inside my top-40. He checks a lot of different boxes off. I could see a team take a chance on him in the late first if they believe he can be a top-line player. Still, this ranking is a reflection of everything he can do at both ends of the ice. Most of the industry has him as a mid-late second rounder.
SC Devs Fan
When I see a new GM drafting a 17 year old no one has heard of, despite what this forum thinks, I think its a (relative) good thing. The simple thing to do it draft the player closest to being NHL ready to get the team a couple of more wins and save his job; the correct thing to do is to look a this team, realize it is going nowhere and draft the player with the biggest upside that won't help for years but has the chance to be an impact player. Fitz drafted what he thought would help the team most in the long run, not the short run, and as our record is likely to be horrid for the next couple of years he will be on the hot seat and didn't flinch. Does it mean this guy will be good? In no way but he didn't just draft the guy the scouting services had highest to make himself look good. Embrace the suck. SterioDesign
it sucks cause technically i should have been able to see Mercer play around here, but the Q is splitting the league between the Quebec teams and the Atlantic provinces teams. Probably until the playoffs
Crisis
Interesting article on Daws. He was draft eligible last year and everyone passed on him. No rookie camp invites either. Then he changed his lifestyle, dropped 30 pounds, had a helluva year in Guelph and helped win the gold for Canada at the WJC. Then he came into this draft as the #1 ranked NA goaltender. I feel like drafted a 19 year old goalie doesn't have the same negative connotation as drafting an overage skater. Seems like he's a year closer to playing which is helpful since goalies often take a few more years.

Not that that would be a good idea for his development, but I'm just sayin'.

SterioDesign
and just like that, on a roster of 23 players who won gold last year at the world juniors with Canada, we have 5 of those guys. Smith Foote Mercer Bahl Daws

SterioDesign
i may just be reactive... but i think i would of preferred to REALLY push for Byram at the deadline, sending Hall and a first and see if they bite... to REALLY try to get a top dman prospect... vs ending up with 3 maybes (Mercer + Merkley + Bahl) but it's done now. And i'm not too comfortable in trading our 2021 first round pick cause there's still a big chance we're a lottery team

Unless you thew in our first this year, which at that point was a lottery pick and could have been the #1 overall pick. Is there any precedent for a team giving up their most recent top 5 first round draft pick for a rental player?
