Or since its so simply according to some fans here... we should just pick the best player and not who's projected #1 by all scouts. Just like we should have known and picked Petterson instead of Hischier like it was obvious lol

Just build the blue line up and we could be a really good team. People go so hot and cold with Mac here. I think he has the potential. He just has to put it together. Will certainly help to get some of the dead wood out from in front of him. As much sh!t as we give him, imagine next year without Greene. Possibly without Vats too. Mac could be in for it. I missed having fun watching Devils hockey. If we have a top 10 pick we’ll get an impact player. We don’t need Lafreniere if it means losing nonstop and having this core not learn and develop winning habits. We have the core we need already. Now it’s just about development and surrounding them well.

By no means am I hoping to lose games going forward. Edited January 3, 2020 by titans04

Satans Hockey
I absolutely can't stand Islanders fans these past bunch of years so I love beating them. Hope we can do it again Tuesday. Awesome goals by PK and Nico and some amazing saves by Blackwood. I'll also take Kenny's barking over having to listen to Pierre any day of the week. SterioDesign
we may be missing some pieces, but surely we're accumulating assets to maybe eventually acquirer what we may need. Make no mistake looking at the standings, this team is trending up

Hopefully it works out but also having cap space ensures nothing whatsoever. Smith's not even making the team this year is just the latest example of nothing is a given when it comes to kids. Not unless it’s a Lafrenière type prospect.

Well I don’t know what you’re looking for then. 4 All Stars on defense? We aren’t aiming to win the cup next year. We have been in rebuilding mode and stockpiling youth in hopes a few of them break through and it looks like we’ve got quite a few that possibly can. And the only thing Smith not making the team this year means is that kids take time. Edited January 3, 2020 by devlman

They're second in the league in goals against only better than Detroit so I'm hoping for a whole lot more than what we have. A good 7 game stretch doesn't remove the stench off this d corps that more often than not is junk and has been for a couple of years now. I think you’re referring to a core as the current stable of defensemen on the NHL roster (who do stink, I agree). I’m referring to our core as the generation of players who will be competing for us over the next decade.

They could turn out to be Matt Taormina, Eric Gélinas, type players. I include Nico, Hughes, Bratt, and Mac, as part of our young core because they’ve already proven they can be good players at the NHL level. Everyone else are question marks at this point. We’re rebuilding around a bunch of 18-20 year olds. Part of the core will undoubtedly still be in juniors/minors and are works in progress. When you stockpile a number of them, like we have, chances are a few will stick, which means we should have a good core around Nico/Jack in the coming years. Or, maybe they all don’t. But we’re set up very nicely to give ourselves a good chance to have a few of them make it. It’s not fair to say we won’t have a good D core or view it as empty in the coming years when those prospects are still simmering.
