Also looking like it might be time for the Mets to move on from Gsellman too.

It definitely has the feel of a season that's just not...destined to happen. So many red flags going into it, and things just keep spiraling. Keep snowballing. I'm wondering if MLB will just be better

I want to see what happens with the NBA and NHL first, there's been almost no new cases in both bubbles.  But there's no way any sports should be playing outside of a bubble and that means the NFL too

Agree, 3/26 seems insanely early. And not a fan of the potential new playoff format one bit.  Thought the current one was just fine, especially with the WC game being so scary that you REALLY wan

Woof.  As dissapointing as the Mets have been, it really shouldn't be that surprising at this point given the Mets lost their #2-3 starters going into the season, Brodie was still going with the same guys in the pen that didn't work last year, and the offense is still a bit feast or famine with some guys having dissapointing years.  With yes, another amateur manager who wasn't even first choice.

But hoo boy, imagine if King George was alive for this sh!t in the Bronx.  Michael Kay on his show ranting on the Yankees today sounded like Joe and Evan, or one of us on the Mets.  If they actually miss the playoffs to the likes of the Tigers or Orioles heads should roll, sixty game season or not.

I can't kill the Mets for not paying Zack because I was never on board with paying him what the Phils did, but clearly they downgraded by bringing in Wacha and Porcello types...they were both major ifs, which seems to be the route the Mets have been taking for years now.  But yeah, you get Noah missing the season, Stroman scamming his way through just enough of the season to become a free agent, Matz sucking and then getting hurt...and BVW doubling down on an iffy pen.  As much as it sucks to lose now when the season is so damned wide open for a .500ish team to get hot at the right time and surprise everyone...I have to remind myself that a sh!tty 60-game 2020 season for the Mets means that there is NO chance that BVW and Rojas will survive when (if?) Cohen takes over.  That's a major positive.  If they're somehow allowed to stick around, I gotta admit, that's going to have me thinking "Meet the new boss...same as the old boss" sooner than I'd like.

I feel pretty confident that won't happen though.  I'm also prepared for a couple of free agent overpayments...sometimes to show the rest of your sports world that the old days are truly done, you have to do that, with the returns not being great overall (see Pedro Martinez).  But it's those gateway "Hey we're back in business!" signings that can lead to better ones, getting guys with much more prime years left...like Carlos Beltran (even though I'm obviously not a huge fan of his).

Re:  the Yanks...obviously they got a bit beat up too.  But yeah after starting 8-1 and 16-6, they can't miss the playoffs.  Hard to imagine Boone would survive that.

BVW’s signings have really paid off...lmfao.

Football being right around the corner will make what remains of this season very easy to let go.  What a sh!tshow this turned out to be.

And if the Mets are at all serious about trying to compete for the rest of this year...stop fvcking around with Wacha and Porcello.  They suck.  I’ll take my chances with anyone else at this point.

They have nothing else literally.  Even Gsellman is now out for the year with a cracked rib. Thanks again Brodie for pissing away all our pitching depth on Stroman, Cano/Diaz and a bunch of 5th OF’ers

BVW has done so much damage in his time here, he really has.  Will be painful watching some of those kids coming up in the years to come.

McNeil really finding his stroke lately...geez...

Last night did prevent their season from being completely over.  Feels like a temporary reprieve though.

And it’s amazing how Jake just makes mincemeat out of just about every lineup that faces him.  In 54 IP this season, he’s allowed 34 hits and struck out 79.  That’s just insane.  This is a guy most hoped could become a solid middle-of-the-rotation guy...all he’s done is become perhaps the best pitcher in baseball.

On the other end of the spectrum, poor Matt Harvey...he’s allowed 24 hits  (5 HR) and 5 walks in 11 IP as a Royal.  He has an ERA in the majors of 6.08 since the start of the 2017 season, with numbers that are every bit as horrible as the ERA suggests.  He really should just call it a career.

And the Mets are pretty much out of last gasps at this point.  Five games under .500 with 13 left to play.  Now it’s pretty much the Cohen watch...and to see if Jake can take home a 3rd Cy Young (though I think doling out awards this season is just absurd).

All signs point to Cohen being approved, if you believe what you read.  But at least the Wilpons didn’t fvck this up yet again.  Guess even they can’t turn EVERY last thing they touch into sh!t.

Bye Freddy.

Bye Jeffy.

Bye Brodie.

Bye Luis.

All ya, go screw.

Oh man...what just happened to Arrieta is EXACTLY the kind of thing you expect to happen to the Mets.

Now Wheeler can finish the Mets off too, assuming they aren't finished already.  Lovely.  Like you said earlier the rest of this season is now just a countdown to a new day.

Admittedly, the bold is making it a lot easier not to get too annoyed by this.  That, and let's face it, even if Mets did somehow do enough to sneak into the playoffs, they're not going far.  The rotation is just about a nonentity beyond deGrom, no one in the bullpen can be trusted, the offense is both feast-or-famine and bullyish...sure, Conforto can drive in 5 runs when the team is scoring 15+, but where is he (and others) when you need a big hit in a close game?  If you didn't watch the games, it would be easy to see the Mets' offensive numbers and think they're really good, but they're extremely misleading...too many guys fattening up against bad bullpens.

And as much I still like Alonso, he's sadly morphed into an all-or-nothing, three-event hitter, and has seen Dom Smith outperform him badly (who would've ever seen THAT coming?).  I really hope we haven't already seen Alonso's best.

As for the future, funny as it sounds, I think we're probably going to have to be a little patient.  For one, BVW's recklessness has left the farm pretty barren...that will need to be built back up.  We also don't know who the new GM will be, and how long it will take to get one.  For another, who's coming up in free agency that the Mets will be able to buy with Cohen's money that will help?  Anyone truly worthwhile?  Do they roll the dice and lock up Noah?  Bring back Stroman (I hope not, he's overrated)?

That was always my worst fear with Alonso, that he'd decay into some kind of Chris Carter type. The pitchers have adjusted to him...he needs to adjust back. The insane power will always be there, but he can't be a .200 teens hitter and .300 teens obp guy. I was never expecting 2019 again, but this has been unacceptable this year. Alonso seems like a guy who can club (and probably will club) at least 30 every year, but we cannot have him be a lineup black hole as often as he's been

Take it for what it's worth, but some chatter going around that Cohen's first "splash" move as owner will be to make a huge (as in "So high he can't refuse it") offer to JT Realmuto, and completely outbid the Phillies.

This is one of the those deals that won't be great long-term...sure, you will probably get 2-3 good years out of him, but as we know, it tends to get ugly for catchers as they approach their mid-30s (sometimes even earlier than that).  And JT's Age 30 season will be in 2021.

BUT, as far as that gateway "We're Back In Business" signing goes, you could do a lot worse.  If Realmuto came aboard, it should open the door for other players to want to come here, and for other players to realize that the Wilponzi days are truly a thing of the past, 5% or not 5% stake.  And even if JT isn't going to be a long-term solution at catcher (I could see his time here unfolding similar to Gary Carter's, given their ages), he should represent a massive upgrade over what they've had behind the plate over the last several seasons, even if it's only for a few years (and if he puts up the same .830 OPS over the next three seasons that he's managed from 2018-20, I'll very happily take it).

Speaking of the Wilpons, and that idiot fvckface POS Jeffy, apparently a big reason he wanted ARod and JLo to win the bidding war was that they were going to allow him to continue to be involved.  And that's reason 10000 why I'm happy they didn't win...I think they were willing to stoop to any level to be the first Latino/Latina owners, no matter what the cost.  It was strictly going to be all about them and their vanity trophy.  ARod can go back to doing whatever ARod does, and JLo can continue making mostly forgettable movies and music.

Guess Jake was due for a rough outing at some point.  Almost shocking when he has a tough game these days.

Yikes, out of the game after two innings.  That can’t be good.
