Perfect top shelf shot. Nico screening.

That's on Nico's play in the offensive zone. Should've dumped it in instead of doing that little between the legs pass.

Every perfect shot that beats him is the same spot though...

Mac is not off limits for criticism, guys.

I guess the good news is that it's basically only a perfect shot that seems to beat Blackwood lately...

The problem is the book is definitely out on him as far as guys shooting high. Those are usually the only shots that beat him clean.

Of course he's not, but a clear shot from the circle that was screened and post and in doesn't deserve criticism.

Edit: Said in the crease, meant from the circle.

I’m not defending Nico, but I’d like Mac to clean up those top shelf goals a bit. Just something I’ve always noticed with him.

Yeah, seems that way, but it still has to be almost perfect....almost every shot is off the bar and in.

But the guy is playing in his first full NHL season for a team that clearly has defensive issues (not to mention suspect coaching), and he’s been playing incredibly well for quite a while...a big key in his team’s turnaround this second half.  It feels like some fans have already started to judge him on too harsh of a curve.

And it does seem like when a goalie gives up a “questionable” goal, fans act like that shot should be stopped every time, though we see soft goals given up by just about every goalie at some point (see Gusev’s goal tonight).  And they don’t take into account all of the incredibly tough saves made on what seemed like sure goals.

Just think he could be cut some slack here and there.

So what’s the story with Mermis? Is he actually good?!

Can’t tell if he’s only good in comparison to the rest of our d, or he really is pretty solid.
