Or waiting for specific guys to become available after season is complete? Lindy probably has a couple guys in mind. doesn't most of the time GM choose them because if they're forced to fire coach mid-season, one of them can step in. I think Lou chose assistants? Plz no...
Colorado Rockies 1976
Man that’s complete horsesh!t if Nas sticks around. I’ve been as open-minded as possible about what’s been going on as of late, but if Hynes Part Deux is somehow seen as part of the solution going forward...fvck that, I’m gonna be pissed.

mfitz804
Have to agree, new head coach plus the abysmal results we have been getting calls for a completely new coaching staff.
NJDevils1214
The PK wasn't the worst ever during his time and the players like him but the results of the previous coaching regime leaves me really wanting a complete overhaul.

NJDevils1214
I like reading Todd Cordell's content but by no means consider him to be an inside scoop guy, so hopefully it is just an incorrect hunch.

Devilsfan118
I mean unless Nas is kept around strictly to play the "nice guy" assistant coach role I'm completely against keeping him on staff. Wouldn't surprise me to see whatever he's tasked with remain terrible.
HellOnICE
Pierre LeBrun had the Nas thing too a couple weeks ago. It looks like there's fire there. I'm whatever on Nas, his PK was good, dis defense was crap.

Nicomo
I don’t think a decent PK is enough of a reason to keep him around. I’m sure someone else could run it just fine. Especially with Zajac out there, and Mac in net. I hope Fitz isn’t going to be loyal to a fault like his old boss was...
Popular Post sundstrom
Ruff currently doing a zoom call w/ STH's. Q&A. I asked several (had to submit before hand). Are you prepared to have patience with some of the younger players on the team to give them a real chance. Are you willing to perhaps lose a regular season game because Jack Hughes is getting outplayed by the other team’s line on a given night, but still keep him with skilled players as opposed to burying him and not giving him the learning experience while moving a veteran like Travis Zajac up simply because it’s the “safer coaching decision”. Will other younger players who still need a fair shot to truly evaluate their talent have to “earn your trust” for consistent minutes or be given any chance to fail for later success (young defensemen like Ty Smith come to mind in this example)? RUFF: Yes - with a team like this, there will have to be ample amounts of patience. For these players, they'll have to have trust that they can make a mistake or two and be able to get back out there and not be afraid. Now, if they repeat the mistake several times, then there have to be consequences like missing a shift or maybe even a period. How do you view the analytics department the Devils have formed? How often would you expect to act on information they provide? Are you looking at it more as a tool for you to use or as a true collaborative partner that could perhaps shape larger decisions. How much do you feel you’ll coach on instinct and how much data and outside counsel do you expect will go into your decisions? Would you envision getting some piece of data from the analytics department during an intermission that you might be able to take advantage of to use later in the game? RUFF: I'm excited to work with the analytics dept. They can really help you in areas like zone entries and exits but you have to know that things like turnovers can be part of that. With that said, the eye test is still something that can't be ignored. Other points: Make the ice smaller - play that way, not actually physically. Take away time and space. Play as a 5 man unit. Looks at forward lines as pairs. Defensive pairings work best when they can be consistent. Push the pace and pressure in the offensive zone. Naming a captain sounds like it will come more from Fitz than Lindy due to familiarity. Notes that its important to see if the player you want to give it to is ready for it (read Nico). Biggest strength of the team right now is Blackwood. Young talent a close second. Someone asked how you can improve OT results. Lindy, understanding the nature of 3 on 3, says that a lot of it is luck and how you can use possession and capitalize on your shots. Basically - win the faceoff and then outchange your opponents.

Colorado Rockies 1976
For some reason I'm kinda hopeful that Ruff in time will turn out to be our version of Joe Torre (not that I'm expecting multiple championships). Though if Nas is allowed to stick around, that's not going to bolster that hope.

There was a feeling he was going to be in demand if he wasn't kept so I think we have a good thing there. I am not overly thrilled by Ruff, but that's really based on a limited knowledge of him outside his time in buffalo. I hope he has the ability to work with young guys and actually develop players. Will be interesting to see who his assistants are. Rangers fans seem delighted he is gone, which is a worry. Welp , here we are. As they say even a broken clock is still correct twice a day.
